Nikki Reed Talks Adoption Plans: She And Ian Somerhalder Want A Pink Bundle Of Joy

Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder are ready to adopt, and they want the newest member of their family to be cute, intelligent, fond of mud, and tasty when fried. Wait, what?

According to PEOPLE, Nikki Reed recently revealed that she and Ian Somerhalder want to adopt a pig… or two… or three. As much as those two love animals, it’s highly likely that they’ll end up with an entire farm full of lucky pigs that won’t have to worry about becoming bacon.

“We talk about pigs all the time,” Nikki told PEOPLE at the Barefoot Wine and Surfrider Foundation Beach Rescue Project. “I’m sure in the near future when we move our life back to the west coast, we will probably end up with a couple rescue pigs.”

Reed explained how many pigs end up homeless after being adopted as pets. They’re cute and cuddly when they’re piglets, but many people find them difficult to feed and care for once they reach their full size.

“The pig thing has actually become an issue because so many people went out and bought these micro mini pigs thinking they would stay this big, and then they ended up growing into like a 30 pound pig and they didn’t know what to do with it.”

Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder already own 11 pets of various species, so hopefully, their swine won’t mind sharing its space with a motley crew of mammals. As the Inquisitr previously reported, one of the first animals the couple adopted together was a horse. This major commitment to an animal’s life was one of the earliest signs that they were getting serious.

During an interview with Us Weekly, Vampire Diaries hunk Ian Somerhalder praised Nikki for her dedication to her furry friends.

“I mean she changes her house into a rescue and a foster home for so many animals and has taken so much time and energy and money of her own with her family, particularly her mom, to foster animals and make sure that they are safe. That in and of itself is really something that solidifies us as a unit that really is an amazing thing to wake up to every morning.”

Hopefully, taking care of this hungry herd of creatures isn’t completely wiping Nikki out. According to the New York Daily News, the Twilight star recently had to be rushed to the emergency room. She started experiencing throat problems while attending San Diego Comic-Con, and it was later discovered that she was suffering from exhaustion and dehydration. She does an awesome job taking care of all those critters, but it sounds like she needs to also focus on her own well-being.

Nikki and Ian already have their hands full with their fur babies, but there’s still plenty of room in their hearts for a little human. During an interview with E! News, Nikki revealed that she and Ian want to have kids “at some point.” Unfortunately, she didn’t say whether they would be willing to adopt a child.

Do you think Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder will make great pig parents, or are they going to end up being overwhelmed if they keep adopting more animals?
