Next ‘Spider-Man’ Movie Will Be A Teen Comedy

The new Spider-Man movie is set to be an extremely humorous affair, judging by the track record of the newly-confirmed writing duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein. Perhaps it’s a good strategy when you have to entertain the multiple age groups likely to attend a new Spider-Man film.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, writers so closely identified with humor are in place for this next Spider-Man. The producers are looking to capitalize on the essence of what’s funny about being a superhero. Spider-Man fans can expect an endless stream of jokes punctuated by bits of drama, action, and special effects.

And the story itself will take place in high school. Look for that “high school teen comedy” sort of tone for the new Spider-Man. That tone is most closely associated with filmmaker John Hughes. It will be interesting to see how that plays out and if comic fans will be receptive to that sort of movie.

Will fans of the last five recent Spider-Man movies be satisfied with the reboot? Fans of those films would be a bit older by now, yet this Spider-Man on screen will be a bit younger. Marvel is probably aiming Spider-Man at a younger generation of fans.

Anyway, we’ve got until summer of 2017 to see how this turns out. A lot could change between now and then, including the writing team. Let’s see if Marvel can build Spider-Man back to prominence once again. Now he’s got to live up to and fit in with all that has been going on with the Avengers. So Marvel needs to make this Spider-Man even stronger than previous ones.

But as Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy have shown us, comic book movies have the potential to go even farther when they can successfully introduce us to new heroes with new, amazing super powers. The 2017 Spider-Man will be the third recent cinematic incarnation of the character.

Not to give anything away for those yet to see Ant-Man, but see if you can find any Spider-Man related references within that film. Another thing you can do while waiting for 2017’s Spider-Man is check out Vacation, the upcoming movie by the Spider-Man writing team, and Cop Car, the next movie by Spider-Man director Jon Watts. Marvel tends to pick the weirdest combination of writer and director teams that somehow work out. Hopefully the team working on Spider-Man will continue the success of the Marvel movie way.
