Emily Blunt Admits A Five-Year Engagement Is Way Too Long

Emily Blunt’s new movie The Five Year Engagement hits theaters today and now everyone is asking the star for relationship advice. According to Blunt, a five-year engagement is way too long for any couple to endure.

Blunt said:

“You gotta crack the whip and get on with it, because you run into all kinds of trouble, like [our characters] do… If you want to do it, you gotta just do it.”

Blunt stars as Violet alongside Jason Segal in the new movie. Community star Alison Brie, who plays Blunt’s friend in the movie, agreed that 5-years is too long for an engagement.

Brie said:

“I mean, look, I’m honestly not a super weddings-y type of person, but I do think that if you’re going to take the step and propose and get engaged, that’s the big leap there. Then just get married! Follow it up!”

The Five Year Engagement hit theaters today and so far it has received mixed reviews. Rotten Tomatoes currently has the move scored at 60%.

The Boston Globe writes:

“Between that opening proposal and the film’s title, you know exactly what’s going to happen, and the result is a comedy-drama almost completely free of dramatic tension.”

The New York Post adds:

“This seems like another breakthrough for Blunt, who demonstrates an ample gift for physical comedy. She and Segel make an inspired team.”
