No Zip Code Required: Donegal Postman Delivers Letter To ‘That Boy With The Glasses’

An efficient Donegal postman has successfully delivered a letter addressed only to “Your man Henderson. That boy with the glasses who’s doing the PhD up there in Queens in Belfast, Buncrana, Co Donegal, Ireland.”

According to Belfast Live, the person that sent the letter had no idea where Henderson lived, but due to a series of events and a canny Donegal postman by the name of Vincent Deehan, the missive arrived in the hands of its intended recipient.

Ironically, the envelope is even stamped with a warning to remember to write the postcode clearly.

It turned out that the Donegal postman’s local knowledge of the people and places in Buncrana helped him decipher the unique addressee and deliver the mail to its final destination.

Roisin Henderson posted on her Facebook page that a man Barry (her husband) knows sent him the letter from Belfast with the unusual address on the envelope.

Apparently, a Donegal postman delivered it to the offices of the Irish Times while Roisin was out, asking whether the letter could possibly be for her husband.

It turns out Barry Henderson, the intended recipient, i.e. the “boy with the glasses,” is indeed “doing the PhD up in Belfast” at Queens University in modern history. Meanwhile, his wife, Roisin, works as a journalist at the Irish Times.

It seemed the sender of the letter only knew that the couple lived in Buncrana, Co Donegal and nothing more.

Roisin said she thought it was brilliant, but that it still didn’t beat another letter sent successfully to “The Fairies, Fairyland, Buncrana” a while back and also delivered by a Donegal postman.

However, what the letter contained was even better. Inside the envelope was a small note, reading, “If this has arrived, you live in a village,” followed by a smiley face.

It all turned out to be a joke on the part of the sender. Identified as Barry from Belfast, it turns out he is also doing a PhD at Queen’s University and sent it as a prank, which turned out beautifully due to the efficiency of one Donegal postman.

In these days of modern technology and endless postal codes, it is like a breath of fresh air that a Donegal postman can still deliver the mail, not only with no postal code, but no street address either!

Meanwhile, as reported on the Inquisitr, the mail service in France might not be quite as efficient, as a letter was recently delivered having been sent 138 years before.
