Tyrann Mathieu’s PETA Video Shows How Dogs In A Hot Car Suffer

Tyrann Mathieu’s PETA video intends to show what happens if you put a Cardinal inside a hot box and set it to bake. While sticking a real bird inside a hot car would be animal cruelty, the PETA public safety announcement proves just how bad dogs have it in a locked hot car by showing how the Arizona Cardinals suffered.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, “Honey Badger” Tyrann Mathieu once told NFL teams he lost track of the number of times he failed drug tests during college.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, hundreds of pets die each year because they are left inside a parked hot car during the summer. They claim that cracking a window does not make a difference, and independent studies prove that the interior temperature of vehicles will rise steadily as time increases.

“The temperature inside your vehicle can rise almost 20º F in just 10 minutes. In 20 minutes, it can rise almost 30º F…and the longer you wait, the higher it goes. At 60 minutes, the temperature in your vehicle can be more than 40 degrees higher than the outside temperature. Even on a 70-degree day, that’s 110 degrees inside your vehicle!”

The Arizona Cardinals player sought to prove this point by showing it on a PETA video. Tyrann Mathieu enters the vehicle when it is 90 degrees Farenheit outside, but within two minutes, the temperature had risen by seven degrees.

“[T]his is ultimately what is feels like, to be a dog trapped inside of a car on a hot day, while their owner is probably in a grocery store, the dog has to sit in the car and literally overheat,” Mathieu remarked during the PETA PSA.

Within four minutes, the temperature had climbed up to 105 degrees, and Tyrann was visibly starting to feel the heat.

“I seriously couldn’t imagine leaving my dog in a car like this. If you are going to make a dog part of your family, then make him part of your family. Don’t treat him like you wouldn’t treat someone you care about or someone you love.”

Eight minutes was enough to chase Tyrann Mathieu out of the vehicle for good. The PETA video then explains how dogs do not sweat, which means that a dog can suffer organ failure from a heat stroke once the temperature reaches 105 degrees.

“After 8 minutes, Tyrann was able to open the door to escape the oven-like conditions. But dogs can’t,” the PETA video reminds audiences.

While the PETA PSA is focused on animals, Tyrann Mathieu’s video should also be a good reminder of how children can die in a hot car if let unattended. According to the organization called Kids And Cars, “38 children die in hot cars each year from heat-related deaths after being trapped inside motor vehicles.”
