A.J. Hawk Will Tackle A Fan If They Ask Him Nicely

A.J. Hawk will apparently do anything for a fan who asks politely enough.

The Cincinnati Bengals linebacker appeared at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada this week and answered a strange request from a fan.

The fan, 35-year-old Ben Heaps, asked A.J. Hawk to tackle him, and the Pro Bowl linebacker agreed.

“He did it with complete disregard,” Heaps told ESPN. “It’s amazing what you’ll do when you get a couple beers in you.”

This is not the first time that A.J. Hawk teed off on the fan. Almost one year ago to the day, Heaps met Hawk at a different golf tournament and asked the linebacker to level him.

As ESPN noted at the time, the circumstances last year were almost exactly the same.

“During a practice round, Hawk got an unusual request from a fan. He wanted to be tackled by the 6-foot-1, 242-pound linebacker.”

“So Hawk, the Packers’ leading tackler in seven of his first eight NFL seasons, obliged. With a running start, he lowered his right shoulder into the willing spectator, who then popped up and embraced Hawk with a hug.”

The fan lucky enough to get tagged by Hawk this year said the request came after he and some friends had been drinking.

“Last year it started as the guys in my group saying we just wanted to do something fun, and I figured as one of the bigger guys in my group, why not me?” Heaps said.

This time, Heaps enlisted a friend who happened to be a former college football quarterback. They arranged for the friend to sail a pass over Heaps’ head, with Hawk then laying the man out, as video posted on SB Nation showed.

It wasn’t exactly the cleanest tackle. The hearty shove sent Heaps crashing onto a GoPro camera, which he said “broke my fall.”

But the fan said he felt fantastic after the tackle, and noted that it wasn’t even the most dangerous thing he’s done at a golf tournament. Heaps, who has been attending celebrity tournaments for the last seven years, said the only time he got hurt at one was when he slept on a hotel bed the wrong way.

The fan said he may ask A.J. Hawk to tackle him again next year, but wants to do something bigger, something he said “makes these last two look mediocre.”
