Laura Browder: Houston Mother Arrested For Going On A Job Interview

Laura Browder has been charged for abandoning her two children at Memorial City Mall in Houston, Texas. She has a 6-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son. According to the authorities at the mall, the two children were alone and crying for about 15 minutes. Browder says that is not true.

Laura Browder has just recently moved into the Houston area from Chicago. She was at the mall on a spur of the moment job interview. Browder, new to the city, could not find anyone to watch her children on short notice, so she took them with her. Browder told KHOU that her children were never more than 30 feet away from her in the food court of the mall where the interview was taking place.

Browder claims this is all just a big misunderstanding.

“This was very unfortunate this happened. I had a interview with a very great company with lots of career growth. I am a college student and mother of two. I would never put my name, background or children in harms way intentionally. I have a promising future ahead of me regardless of what the media tries to portray me as. A judge released my children to me knowing that I was a good mother who just made a not so smart decision. My children weren’t even 30 yards away from me, I fed them and sat there with them until it was time to meet with my interviewer. This too will pass and I am not concerned with outsiders have to say or what they think.”

The irony of the situation is that Laura Browder was trying to secure a job so she could provide for her two children. As a matter of fact, she accepted the position, and when she went to get her kids, two police officers were waiting to arrest her.

She expressed gratitude for support from many people in the community. She has even received other job offers. She is unsure if the arrest will jeopardize the position she accepted. The investigation is ongoing, according to Child Protective Services.
