Janet Jackson Fans Petition For Al Sharpton To Force Radio Stations To Play ‘No Sleeep’

Janet Jackson’s “No Sleeep” was the most hyped single by an artist in recent memory. However, the song has also become one of the biggest yawners in recent memory as it has only charted at No. 67 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 before completely falling off the chart. While it is getting traction on some R&B stations, the song has failed to make any type of impact in overall audience impressions.

Janet Jackson fans, hoping to turn around the fate of her comeback single, have taken to Change.org to produce a petition.

“Janet Jackson is facing discrimination for being a strong Black woman. ‘No Sleeep’ has only been played on some R&B stations, causing the song to only chart on Billboard for one week. Radio stations are refusing to play Janet, but have no problem playing songs by that old white hag Madonna or the white-privileged Britney Spears.”

Some of the people who have signed the petition are pretty angry.

“White people should not control what Black people listen to,” writes Spencer Young of Allentown, New Jersey.

“It’s unfair that Janet’s skin color is stopping radio stations from playing this song, which is the best of her career,” writes Bruno LeFew of Los Angeles, CA.

However, one Janet Jackson fan claimed he is ashamed to be a part of Jackson’s fan base.

“Calling Madonna an ‘old white hag’ does nothing to help Janet’s cause, if you think she has one. The fact is that Janet is older and won’t get airplay on youth-oriented radio stations. You all make me ashamed to be a Janet fan,” says David O’Brien of Evanston, IL.

Like Madonna, Janet is receiving raves for her new music without any commercial results. Robbie Daw from Idolator described what many critics felt about “No Sleeep” when first listening to it.

“‘No Sleeep’ is a sultry slow burner that builds with each progressive verse and chorus and drifts across your ears like a pleasantly naughty dream. Plus, thanks to the saucy lyrics, we now we have a new title for Ms. Jackson: The Queen Of Insomnia!”

However, many members of the general public simply believed Janet Jackson’s song needed a major shot of caffeine.

Perhaps Janet Jackson fans shouldn’t sweat over the commercial disappointment of “No Sleeep.” Ms. Jackson is about to embark on a world tour, and she is scheduled to play such highly regarded venues as the Santa Barbara Bowl, the Chicago Theater, and even the Forum in Los Angeles. Janet Jackson may have a tough time resonating with today’s music audiences, but she will always be an icon.
