‘Ant-Man’ Vs. ‘Trainwreck’: Which Movie Is THE Movie To See This Weekend?

Ant-Man and Trainwreck have already opened in theaters on Thursday night. Both movies are expected to do well at the box office this coming weekend. The big question everybody wants to know is which movie is worth seeing this weekend?

There’s a lot of movies opening this weekend, but the two biggest movies are Ant-Man and Trainwreck. Both Amy Schumer and Paul Rudd are trying to get that box office attention this weekend.

Schumer stars in a raunchy comedy called Trainwreck, which tells the story of a woman who sleeps around doesn’t quite know how to settle down. Schumer’s character then falls for a sweet sports doctor played by Bill Hader. LeBron James will also make his big acting debut by playing Hader’s gay best friend.

In Marvel’s latest movie, Ant-Man, Paul Rudd plays Scott, a burglar who tries out his super powers with a specially made suit. The skilled burglar who’s fresh out of prison agrees to go on another burglar heist once more with his buddies. It’s one of your typical Marvel movies with some silly humor thrown in. It’s not really geared towards adults, but it’s still a fun summer movie that’s packed with plenty of action.

So, which movie fared better? Ant-Man opened with a hefty $6.4 million on Thursday night. The movie is expected to open within the $60 million to $65 million range in over 3,000 locations, some of those which feature movies in 3D. It also helps that Ant-Man is opening in 50 international markets this weekend.

So, which movie should you see this weekend? Ant-Man is perfect for kids and young teenagers. Some adults who enjoy the classic comics and Marvel’s other movies may want to check out this latest flick as well. Although there are references to The Avengers and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Ant-Man is pretty much a stand-alone film.

Ant-Man is more from the Guardians tree, in that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Even the action sequences seem like an afterthought. And although it includes the requisite references to other Marvel films (and features a brief appearance by Anthony Mackie as Falcon), it seems the furthest removed from the Marvel universe.”

Trainwreck is obviously not for teenagers and kids. It is, however, a raunchy and comedy that grownups should check out. Women will love seeing a brash and strong character played by Amy Schumer.

“This makes Trainwreck several things: a jolt of feminism (it’s the men who are naked for a change); a sad commentary on a grumpy old man (played well by Colin Quinn); an overview of complicated relationships circa 2015 (with former Saturday Night Live funnyman Hader playing straight man).”

“But most of all it is a raunchy comedy created by Schumer (of Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer) and filtered trough the R-rated mind of Apatow. One area the film excels in is casting.”

Still have trouble deciding on which movie to see? Contributor Troy L. Smith summed it up best.

Trainwreck will be Amy Schumer’s star-is-born moment. But if you really want to be a part of a summer extravaganza, Ant-Man is the way to go.

Both Ant-Man and Trainwreck received a B-rating from Cleveland.com contributor Clint O’Connor. Teens (and some men) may enjoy Paul Rudd’s action-packed film, while young adult women may want to check out Amy Schumer’s big movie debut. Both prove there is something for everyone to see at the movies this weekend. Which one do you plan to see? Share your thoughts below in the comments section.
