Homeless Man Finds Something Horrifying Near Train Tracks — Leads To Other Gruesome Findings

Two days ago, a homeless man from New Haven, Connecticut, found a pair of severed human legs among the foliage near a set of train tracks.

According to the Huffington Post, the homeless man notified the police and brought them to the location, but the vegetation was so thick that the authorities had difficulty finding the severed legs at first.

“Even knowing where they were today, you still couldn’t see them from the road unless you knew what you were looking for,” said Officer David Hartman.

The severed legs had been cut from someone’s body about one week prior to their discovery, according to the medical examiner. They had no shoes on, but they were wearing socks. Neither of the legs were wrapped or covered up in anyway, they were simply discarded in the brush by the train tracks.

There’s a chance the severed legs were removed from a corpse long after the person was dead, but police are currently treating the investigation as a homicide.

The search for the rest of the remains yielded surprisingly quick results. According to NBC Connecticut, two severed arms were found not far from where the homeless man spotted the severed legs. The limbs had been dismembered from the body, and the hands had been removed at the wrist. Both arms were stuffed inside a plastic bag under a bridge, close to the train tracks.

“We’re dealing with parts of the arms from the shoulder to where the wrists would be,” said Hartman. “The legs were about from the knee down.”

This gruesome discovery was the result of a citizen smelling rotten flesh and informing a traffic cop. It’s unclear so far if the arms belong to the same body as the severed legs, but David Hartman admits, “it would be incredibly coincidental and… incredibly disturbing if they were separate cases.”

Police are also confident that the dismembered limbs were hidden in separate locations from where the legs and arms were severed — meaning they only have “secondary crime scenes,” not a murder scene.

“There’s no evidence that we’ve uncovered yet to support any idea that the limbs were severed where they were found. So we also have no reason to believe that other body parts will be found necessarily in this area over being found in any other area.”

According to the New Haven Independent, the arms were found about a day after the severed legs, at approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The medical examiner is now running DNA tests to determine the age, race, and gender of the unidentified body.
