10-Year-Old Girl Complains Of ‘Stomach Ache’ At School, Gives Birth Hours Later

A 10-year-old girl is now the mother of a newborn child following a shocking turn of events that took place on Tuesday, July 14. What began as a typical day at her school in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, has led to a report that is now making headlines around the world.

According to the Mirror Online, she initially thought her discomfort was the result of a stomach ache, but she quickly learned that definitely wasn’t the case. As the pain gradually intensified, the 10-year-old girl’s teachers grew more concerned and ultimately decided that she needed to seek immediate medical attention. After she was rushed to a local hospital, doctors confirmed that she was actually in the “late stages of labor” — seven months pregnant to be exact. The baby was born prematurely, and both the girl and her baby are being treated in the hospital’s neonatal unit.

The girl’s mother immediately questioned her about the circumstances that led to the unknown pregnancy. She reportedly admitted that she’d been sexually abused by her 40-year-old stepfather, who’d sworn her to secrecy by threatening to kill her mother and brother. The girl’s mother reported the alleged rape to local authorities.

Belo Horizonte Police Chief Capt. Castro released a brief statement about the girl’s pregnancy, along with her family’s reaction to the unexpected birth of the child. Needless to say, the girl’s mother and family members were shocked because no one noticed any physical changes due to her “small frame,” reports Pulse Nigeria.

“The mother alleges she and other family hadn’t noticed. The mother alleges that she, along with other family members, hadn’t noticed, taking into consideration the child’s small frame.”

However, it has been reported that the girl’s mother did note distinct changes in her daughter’s demeanor. The mother insists the changes became noticeable around October of last year. According to AOL.com, the girl became more introverted and her academic progress gradually declined. When questioned by local authorities, the girl’s stepfather reportedly admitted to his actions, reports the Daily Mail. He has been arrested and charged with the rape of a child and illegal possession of firearms.
