San Jose Man Found Shot To Death In Minivan Early Thursday Morning

A San Jose man was found shot to death in his minivan on Tully Road near Fontaine Road in the early hours of Thursday morning, as reported by the San Jose Mercury News.

Officers on patrol say that they first noticed the “suspicious” van, which had run over a curb and ended up in a yard, around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning, according to police spokesman Officer Albert Morales. The van came to a halt near the San Jose Social Security Office, as reported by NBC Bay Area News.

The name of the deceased man has not yet been released, and the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will not be making a statement as to the man’s identity until all relatives have been notified, though they did indicate that the man’s age is estimated to be somewhere around 40.

The male found in the vehicle had “visible wounds,” Morales said; there was at least one gunshot wound present. The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

At this time, police say they have no information available as to any suspects who may have been involved in the homicide, though the San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit worked to investigate the scene Thursday morning.

“The circumstances or motive surrounding the shooting are unknown at this time,” police spokesman Morales added.

The man found shot in his Mazda van marks the 13th murder in San Jose this year, and is the second homicide that has occurred this week; the Thursday morning death is also the fifth homicide within the last three weeks. Police do not appear to have any suspects thus far for any of the five slayings.

The number of killings this year, however, are down from what they were at the same time last year; in 2014, there had been 19 murders by this time.

A 19-year-old male was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound on Monday night, around 9:25 p.m., near the same place the Thursday morning victim was found in his vehicle.

The teenager killed Monday was murdered in the 5200 block of Monterey Highway near Chynoweth Avenue, a gang-ridden area of San Jose; the victim has now been identified as Marcos Flores.
