Caitlyn Jenner, Candis Cayne ESPY Appearance Not A Date: Transgender Activists Are Supportive Best Friends [Video]

Caitlyn Jenner and Candis Cayne at the ESPY Awards did not constitute a date. That’s the word from insiders as rumors spread that Caitlyn and Candis were more than friends, reported Us Weekly.

When it became public knowledge that Cayne would be accompanying Jenner to the 2015 ESPYS, the tabloids immediately published reports that romance was blossoming between the women, both of whom are transgender rights activists and have become pals as a result.

“It was so ridiculous. What, is Candis suddenly a lesbian now? Candis is currently single but is only interested in men, and Caitlyn is a woman,” said a source who represents Cayne.

In addition, Jenner’s insiders also said that Caitlyn and Candis have not been dating, nor do they have plans to do so.

As to the decision on Jenner’s part to have Candis accompany her to the ceremony, Cayne has served as a mentor. That made the ESPY ceremony, at which Jenner received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, especially significant.

“It’s absolutely NOT a date,” added the Jenner insider.

In addition to being a mentor as Caitlyn went through her transition, Candis has become BFFs with Jenner, reported Page Six.

Aside from joining Caitlyn at the ESPYs, Cayne has been shown in the promos for the new reality show, I Am Cait.

Candis is known as the first transgender woman to portray a transgender character on a network, starring with William Baldwin in ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money. She was in 11 episodes of the series.

Originally from Hawaii, Candis chose New York for her career, which included nightclub appearances.

“You can’t do a split leap in four-inch heels,” said the trained dancer. “You learn throughout the years to utilize the best movements for the best wow factor.”

Cayne also acted in To Wong Fu, Wigstock, and Nip/Tuck. In the docu-series I Am Cait. Candis will guest star occasionally.

The most recent promo from I Am Cait shows Caitlyn playing tennis and admitting that she now understands the reason for sports bras, reported People.

“Now I know why girls need a sports bra!” laughed the Olympic winner.

Kim Kardashian has been offering fashion advice recently. Her step-mother is shown going through a dress rack and lighting up when she sees a possibility. But when Kim sees the black dress, she vetoes it, pointing out that it would turn her parents into twins.

“Mom has that,” said Kim bluntly.

As the Inquisitr reported, Caitlyn recently shared Bruce Jenner’s tipping point in the decision to become transgender. She also shared her awareness of what many face in the transgender community as they go through their own transitions.

“It’s been both eye opening and difficult to see firsthand what so many members of the trans community have had to go through just to be themselves. I hope to help raise awareness of these hardships so that it becomes a less painful process going forward. That said, the future looks bright. I knew that my transition would get some response, but I certainly never expected all of this. It’s honestly been incredibly positive.”
