Jill And Jessa Duggar Spinoff Show: Could Sisters Get Their Own Show In Wake Of ’19 Kids And Counting’ Cancellation

Jill and Jessa Duggar are going off the air, but there is speculation that the popular sisters could be getting their own show in the wake of TLC giving the axe to their reality television show.

On Thursday, TLC announced that it had decided to cancel 19 Kids and Counting in the wake of eldest brother Josh Duggar’s molestation scandal. Several weeks ago, it was revealed that Josh was accused of molesting a number of young girls, including his own sisters, when he was a teenager.

The revelation brought the show and TLC under fire, and after several weeks, the network announced that it would be dropping the show for good.

The network announced the following (via the Associated Press).

“After thoughtful consideration, TLC and the Duggar family have decided to not move forward with 19 Kids and Counting. The show will no longer appear on the air… the recent attention around the Duggars has sparked a critical and important conversation about child protection.”

But the Duggar family is not gone entirely. TLC announced that it would be putting together a one-hour documentary featuring Jill and Jessa Duggar, along with other survivors and families affected by abuse.

In the weeks that followed the revelation of Josh’s scandal, there has been speculation that TLC may find a larger role for the popular Jill and Jessa, who now both have families of their own. There has been talk of a spin-off Duggar show in the works, one that focuses entirely on the two sisters, and cuts Josh out of the picture. OK! Magazine has reported on the rumors, noting that the Duggar family had not commented on the idea of a new show.

But with Jessa Duggar (now Seewald) pregnant, and Jill Duggar (now Dillard) now raising her first child, many believe TLC has an opportunity to take the 19 Kids and Counting franchise into a new direction while still keeping the fan-favorites on the air.

There was speculation that TLC producers “had planned on sharing many milestones with the public, [and] are hopeful that they may be able to regain some semblance of normalcy and be able to share their happiness with people,” a source told People.

“That’s partially what was behind Jill’s Instagram post [announcing Israel’s 2-month birthday]: It was a small step toward reminding people how good they still know life to be.”

It was not clear in Thursday’s announcement if TLC may still be in the market for a Jill and Jessa Duggar spin-off show.
