Keeping Up With Prometheus: Brand New Featurette Arrives

Posted: April 25, 2012

Ridley Scott "at the top of his game"

While the world waits for the imminent touchdown of Prometheus, the consensus that the campaign behind Ridley Scott’s forthcoming epic has been an exercise in genius – is a popular one.

Teasers, trailers, virals, previews, ship schematics, stills galore, apps and treasure hunt websites – yes, Scott and 20th Century Fox know what fanboys - and fangirls – want. The pre-release build for Prometheus has been so extraordinarily imaginative, observers may well wonder what the creatives behind this insanely anticipated film will do next.

Well, today – courtesy of iTunes movie trailers – a new featurette has arrived. Nearly 1.40 minutes, the clip begins with the words “The adventure begins”, before diving into a few new shots as well as some great soundbites from Scott and the film’s actors.

Describing himself as an “all about everything” director,  in the clip Scott looks like a man in supreme control – both on and off screen. Tackling the origin of humanity itself without irony, ‘funny’ one-liners, or any of the usual devices used to sell a sci-fi epic – even one with the towering lineage Prometheus has – is no easy task.  But Scott, clearly relishing the opportunity to revisit – and expand – on Alien, buoyantly says ” I’m thrilled to be doing another science-fiction.” So, it would seem, are his cast.

On the subject of Scott; we hear Noomi Rapace say, “I trust Ridley 100 percent,” Charlize Theron dubs the veteran auteur her “fantasy director,” Michael Fassbender describes a man “at the top of his game,” Guy Pearce praises Scott’s “extraordinary vision”, while Logan Marshall Green says, “he [Scott]wants to push the envelope as far as he can.”

Here’s hoping.

Watch the featurette below:

Prometheus opens June 1 in the UK and June 8 in the U.S.
