David And Rebecca Hubbard: Massive Teen Sex Rap Heads Toward Trial For Cop-Turned-Teacher And Wife

David Hubbard was a sheriff’s deputy in Chilton County, Alabama, who became a teacher of other, aspiring law enforcement officers. His wife, Rebecca, was a substitute teacher, also with Chilton County schools. But the cop who helped shape the minds of future cops and his educator wife became jailbirds last year, thanks to what prosecutors say is their taste for including their teen students in their own sexual relationship.

The couple face 77 charges — 47 leveled at David Hubbard, 30 for Rebecca — that include second-degree rape, transporting a minor for purposes of illegal sex, second degree sodomy, enticing a child for immoral purposes, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and other similar accusations.

The Hubbards were indicted last November after their arrest the previous July. In June of this year, they faced a deadline to strike a plea bargain arrangement, but a judge extended that deadline to July 27.

After that, if the couple and their lawyers don’t agree to a guilty plea of some sort, they’ll face a trial — and that’s when what are likely to be all kinds of sordid details that have so far been shielded from public view will spill out.

Though, given the charges, those details are likely to be highly salacious, the case is not only about sex with underage girls. According to investigators — and to a wrongful death lawsuit filed in February against the Hubbard and two of the teen girls in the case — the Hubbard’s illicit activities led to the death of a completely innocent person.

In fact, that tragedy is what set off the investigation that led to the charges against David Hubbard, 41, and Rebecca Hubbard, 36.

On June 19 of 2014, 45-year-old Christopher Alan Webster of Alabaster, Alabama, was killed when a Chevy Trailblazer allegedly driven by a 17-year-old girl slammed into his vehicle on State Highway 145.

When police tried to determine if alcohol had something to do with the fatal accident, they found evidence that, they say, the Hubbards had supplied the girl — and a second teen girl in the Trailblazer — with booze the previous night.

The investigation went on to find “inappropriate and illegal contact” between the Hubbard couple and the two girls.

Over the following months, four more teens came forward and told police that they had also had “inappropriate contact” with Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard.

The girl behind the wheel was accused of recklessly failing to yield to another vehicle. The other teen, for allowing her friend to drive drunk, an allegation also facing the Hubbards — who also stand accused of giving the girls the alcohol in the first place.

Another law enforcement officer faced a new unlawful sex charge this week, when New York cop Alberto Randazzo was charged with coaching a woman to molest a young boy during a Skype chat.

In February, Webster’s estate filed the wrongful death suit against David and Rebecca Hubbard. But in June, a lawyer defending David Hubbard claimed that he had new information in the case and that “the entire picture that has been painted of Mr. Hubbard is about to change.” But lawyer Davy Hay would not say what that new information might actually be.
