Donald Trump Puts His Money Where His Mouth Is

A Republican presidential candidate for the 2016 election has shown the world just how wealthy he is. The real estate mogul has filed his financial disclosure forms with the FEC and announced his net worth.

As a presidential candidate, Donald Trump was required to file financial disclosure forms with the Federal Election Commission. Though the FEC has yet to confirm whether they’ve received Trump’s form, his campaign has already released the information that was put on the forms. As WSJ reported, Trump claimed on the disclosure forms that his net worth is more than $10 billion.

Many commenters and analysts believed that Mr. Trump would never file his financial disclosure forms. The speculation was understandable as Mr. Trump has never released a detailed report on his wealth. But Trump obviously proved them all wrong. Talking with CNN, Donald Trump addressed the fact that many people doubted that he would release his finance information.

“Then, they said, I would never file my statement of candidacy with the FEC, and I did. Next, they said I would never file my personal financial disclosure forms. I filed them early despite the fact that I am allowed two 45 days extensions.”

The Trump campaign said in a news release that the FEC forms are not designed for someone as rich as Mr. Trump. The campaign noted that many of the boxes on the FEC form simply state “$50 million or more” and that Trump checked those boxes many times.

“Mr. Trump’s net worth has increased since the more than one year old financial statement produced at his presidential announcement. Real estate values in New York City, San Francisco, Miami and many other places where he owns property have gone up considerably during this period of time. His debt is a very small percentage of value, and at very low interest rates. As of this date, Mr. Trump’s net worth is in excess of TEN BILLION DOLLARS.”

As noted by the New York Times, Donald Trump claimed that he made $362 million last year alone. That number isn’t including things like dividends, interest, rent, and capital gains.

Trump is doing well in the early Republican presidential polls. A nationwide poll found that Trump is tied for first place with Jeb Bush. Despite his good polling numbers, many people doubt Trump could ever win the Republican nomination. After the 2012 election loss that Republicans took with Mitt Romney — a businessman — it may be unlikely that Republican voters would nominate a similar candidate.
