Salma Hayek’s Desperate And Anxious Dating Before Finding ‘The Perfect Man’

Salma Hayek’s allure didn’t stop her from feeling desperate and worried for years about dating, men and relationships, until she finally found the ‘perfect’ man. Hayek says that if she’d known she was going to eventually find “a great husband who’s going to adore you,” she would have been more careful about who she chose to date. The Belfast Telegraph referred to Hayek’s recent interview and “nearly” nude photo spread with Allure magazine, where Salma opened up about those early years.

“I wish I knew that I was going to fall crazy in love with the perfect man. I was so worried, and I dated some people I shouldn’t have dated. You get desperate, and you start seeing wonderful things in, like, the wrong guys.”

The 48 year old actress said it wasn’t all bad, but she wishes she could tell her younger self to “chill out” and wait. “I would have saved myself a lot of personal drama,” Hayek said.

Hayek, star of Frida, wed french billionaire Francois Henri Pinault in 2009 and makes sure to keep the love alive in their marriage. The couple are parents to a seven year old daughter Valentina, and Salma puts her daughter and husband first at all times.

The Hamilton Spectator described Hayek’s many professional obligations, suggesting that it’s not unusual for busy couples to neglect their relationship or families. Salma’s commitments include acting and producing as well as her own cosmetics line, but in the interview with Allure, Hayek “insists she puts her family first.”

“I’ve never been apart from my daughter for more than two weeks. And same with Francois. We don’t separate for long periods of time. Never.”

Hayek was even willing to resist the allure of her acting career after Valentina was born, but “credits her husband” for giving her the encouragement she needed to continue. He told Salma that he didn’t “want to be deprived” of her work, and reminded her that “the world has not seen the best of you yet.” Some fans think that the Allure photo shoot is some of the best of Salma Hayek though!

Hayek’s latest project is an animated film of The Prophet by Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran. The story looks at “topics concerning family, death, and love,” and reflects the values of peace and love that are important to Salma in her family life. “It’s important to remind us of our humanity,” she said, “and it’s a little bit healing.”
