The CinemaCon unveiled a plethora of films on Tuesday evening, bringing out tons of stars including Tim Burton, Jennifer Garner, and more. However, this event lent director Sam Raimi along with frequent co-stars Mila Kunis and James Franco the stage to introduce scenes from the highly anticipated film Oz: The Great and Powerful.

The film which also stars Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz, focuses on the wizard as a young man coming to power and all of the characters that he meets and enchants along the way. The film is said to start out in black and white just like the original Wizard of Oz, and slowly transition into color. One big lift on Oz is that it will be featured in 3D, which is sure to put warm bodies in the theater seats.

Of the experience filming Kunis said, “It was very nerve wrecking because I think the character became such an icon for what she was, and she was so brilliant at it, that I would never want to take it and copy it. I wouldn’t be able to. You try to take a character and reinterpret it, and you give them reason as to why they became who they became.”

Star James Franco, who plays the lead Oz, explained all of the personality dynamics of the wizard in his younger state, saying, “I get to play all these sides of American heroes. He’s part cowboy, part weird magician, part conman, part romantic man, so I really got to play everything from classic American cinema. The important thing is to have a fresh take without breaking the bubble of what people know and love.”

Oz: The Great and Powerful is scheduled to hit theaters March 8, 2013.
