Margot Robbie Kept Rat That ‘Suicide Squad’ Joker Jared Leto Gave Her
Suicide Squad‘s Margot Robbie now has a pet rat, but it wasn’t always hers. It was given to her by her co-star, Jared Leto, in a move that mirrors their on-screen relationship.
In the film, the two portray Gotham City’s most dangerous power couple, Joker and Harley Quinn, and a rat almost seems fitting as a gift between the co-stars.
It appears that Jared Leto has been taking the Shia LaBeouf route to acting and “going method,” actually doing what the Joker might do in real life. The rodent that he sent to his Suicide Squad co-star was only one part of his real-world antics. According to ABC News, he also sent something similar to Will Smith, who plays Deadshot. These two gifts were revealed by co-star Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot (not the band, the DC Comics villain).
“He sent [Margot] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it — a live rat. It was beautiful. Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter.”
When 25-year-old Margot Robbie received the rat, she also went method and kept it, despite crew members telling her she should kill it.
“If Harley got something from Joker, she’d probably cherish it.”
Adopting the rodent as a pet, Robbie named it Rat Rat and has began feeding it organic berries from Whole Foods, as revealed in an interview with Elle Magazine. Other cast members reportedly received a dead hog.
It’s probably a good thing that more Suicide Squad cast members didn’t take the method route, since Will Smith would probably end up in prison rather quickly for taking on Deadshot’s habits.

About her own boyfriend, Robbie is keeping her silence. It’s unknown whether it’s for the sake of discretion or if there are problems between them. Tom Ackerley, who she met on the set of Suite Francaise, could be either a little disturbed or relatively amused by Jared Leto’s gift to Robbie. She won’t disclose anything about their relationship.
The one thing we do know about the strange gift is that Margot Robbie kept the rat Leto gave her.
