‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Camilla Luddington Open For Katherine Heigl’s Izzie Stevens To Return For Season 12

As Grey’s Anatomy begins to prepare for its 12th season, many fans are still hoping that Katherine Heigl will return to reprise her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens at some point in the new season. Although Shonda Rhimes has yet to state whether or not she would be open to Heigl’s return, Grey’s Anatomy star Camilla Luddington recently discussed the possibility of Heigl’s return.

Although Luddington wasn’t a part of the how during Heigl’s days, her character does have a connection with Izzie, who had a past relationship with Alex. According to Carter Matt, Luddington, who plays Jo in the medical drama, stated that an appearance by Izzie on the show “would be nuts.” Considering Jo and Alex’s current relationship, bringing back Izzie for the upcoming season would surely shake things up for Jo.

Luddington also opened up about Jo’s future and stated that her uncertainty about her character’s future is one reason why she is nervous about the new season. In addition to not knowing what’s in store for her relationship with Alex, she isn’t sure how much more they can get through before they reach some kind of breaking point.

Speaking of Jo and Alex’s relationship, the couple have endured quite a bit of rough circumstances over the past few seasons, which should be encouraging for whatever is ahead. With the couple still together, despite a few bumps along the way, some fans were expecting that Alex would propose to Jo at the end of last season.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Luddington stated that while she knows little about Jo’s future with Alex, she noticed that fans were waiting for a proposal during the time-jump episode last season.

“In that time-jump episode, I got so many tweets about him proposing!”

Luddington went on to explain how she doesn’t think that Jo is expecting Alex to propose. However, she added that if Alex did decide to propose to Jo, then she would most definitely say yes.

“I don’t know if it puts pressure on him. I think Jo and Alex are moving in a very similar pace within their relationship… I don’t think Jo is wanting to have kids immediately, she’s not expecting to get a ring. If it happens at this point, I’m sure she would say yes.”

Grey’s Anatomy is expected to premiere Season 12 sometime in September on ABC.
