‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Will Refer To Zombies As ‘Infected’, Not ‘Walkers’

For a while now, fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead have been wondering what the zombies – or walkers – will be referred to in the companion series, Fear The Walking Dead. Thanks to San Diego Comic Con, we now have an answer!

Considering The Walking Dead, and therefore, Fear The Walking Dead is set in a universe where zombie movies never existed, there has always been creative terms used by the cast to describe the undead. The most common term in The Walking Dead currently is walkers. However, with Fear The Walking Dead concentrating on the outbreak, the zombies featured will be recently undead, and for the most part, initially not even considered “undead.” This poses a problem as to what to call them at the start of the outbreak. Now, thanks to an interview some Fear The Walking Dead cast did with Yahoo TV at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, we can now start referring to the undead in this new series as ” the infected.” Or, “those who are infected.”

Fear The Walking Dead actor Cliff Curtis (who plays main character, Travis) made it very clear they were under instruction from the crew at AMC to not refer to the undead as walkers like they do in The Walking Dead. He also stated that they wouldn’t be called walkers either – at least not at the start.

Khail Anonymous from Yahoo had asked the cast about how they auditioned for Fear The Walking Dead, referring to the show as a “zombie show,” which is when Curtis corrected him. While Alycia quickly called them “the infected,” Curtis had a more convoluted way of describing them.

“Humans that have been infected by a very mysterious virus of which we do not have any understanding.”

Honestly though, we don’t think that extended term will stick for very long – especially if there is one standing right behind people that need to be warned quickly!

Also mentioned during their interview with Yahoo TV was the fact Fear The Walking Dead would be orientated towards the core family and how they deal with the beginning of the apocalypse. Curtis described Fear The Walking Dead as “a scary, very serious, dramatic version of The Brady Bunch,” thanks to the fact the family involved is blended. Although, instead of Alice, Travis’ ex-wife Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez) will be there too.

Fear The Walking Dead will premiere on Sunday, August 23, 2015, on AMC. You can view the Comic Con trailer for Season 1 here.
