A former AOL exec has joined the Second Life team. Frank Ambrose — most recently a senior vice president of technology at AOL — will hold the similar title of senior VP of global technology at Linden Lab, the company behind Second Life.

In his new role, Ambrose will work to create new systems to help Second Life’s network expand. He’ll focus on stability and user support as the virtual world increases its data capacity to serve its growing userbase. Right now, Second Life claims about 15 million registered users.

Ambrose had been at AOL for nine years prior to the new appointment.
