Philadelphia 76ers Rumors: Joel Embiid Injury Gets Worse, Will Miss Entire Season For 76ers.

Philadelphia 76ers rumors about Joel Embiid are not good. Embiid won’t play for the 76ers during the 2015-16 NBA season after it was revealed that his injury isn’t healing as well as hoped. A report from CBS Sports on Saturday, July 11, states that Embiid suffered a big setback while his surgically repaired right foot was healing. Now, he is expected to miss the entire NBA season due to a second surgery on that foot.

After becoming the No. 3 overall selection in the 2014 NBA Draft, Joel Embiid was supposed to become a rock in the low post for the 76ers. It didn’t go as planned, with a lot of rumors coming from the team that he first wasn’t ready, and then that he needed to go through surgery on his foot. Now his debut in the league will be delayed as he prepares for a second surgery.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the 76ers added some insurance during the 2015 NBA Draft and selected center Jahlil Okafor with the No. 3 pick. It was seen as a surprising move by many NBA analysts, but it gave the team another low post weapon. With the revelation of this Embiid injury update in the latest Philadelphia 76ers rumors, the draft pick is starting to make even more sense. At least Okafor will be ready to play next season.

While it is certainly too early to call Joel Embiid a bust, the University of Kansas product is starting to remind many basketball fans of Greg Oden. When the Portland Trail Blazers drafted Oden out of Ohio State University, the team thought he could be an All-Star center for years to come. Injuries and surgeries completely derailed his career, and the success of the No. 2 pick (Kevin Durant) made it that much worse for Blazers fans to accept. That might be how it turns out for 76ers fans, especially if players selected after Embiid in the 2014 draft start producing at All-Star levels.

It has been tough for loyal 76ers fans to watch a team that seems to have tanked the past few NBA seasons. While no general manager or owner other than Mark Cuban is going to admit to doing it, this franchise hasn’t been putting a competitive team on the floor. While many teams get linked to big free agents or get good odds to make the postseason, most Philadelphia 76ers rumors involve at what point the team will trade off players for more draft picks. Maybe that could change if Jahlil Okafor fulfills his potential.
