Jennifer Hudson Celebrates Same-Sex Marriage By Crashing Gay Wedding, Serenading Lucky Couple

Jennifer Hudson found a creative way to celebrate the adoption of same-sex marriage — by crashing the ceremony of a lucky couple and serenading them with her latest single.

The actress and singer happened to be at the W Hotel in Dallas when grooms Chris and Scott were tying the knot, and joined the couple after they said their vows. Hudson had the appearance planned out, Us Weekly noted, as she surprised the pair by walking out just after the congregation watched a video message she had sent to them.

As Hudson later explained on Instagram, the grooms were blown away by her appearance.

“Congrats to Chris and Scott!” she wrote. “They said girl where the hell u come from!”

Jennifer Hudson has been a big proponent of same-sex marriage, and the video for her latest single “I Still Love You” shows two men getting ready for their wedding.

It was no coincidence that the former American Idol crashed a wedding at the W Hotel. The venue has partnered with the Human Rights Campaign for the TURN IT UP FOR CHANGE, which supports LGBT marriage equality.

A website for the campaign even noted that “guest surprises” would be part of the program.

“Turn It Up For Change: Love Has No Limit is a campaign to promote equality through the power of music. Led by W Hotels and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), TIUFC is about raising the volume on the battle for marriage equality in the U.S. and raising funds to support the ongoing struggle for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) equality in all realms.

“W Hotels — a brand that has been dedicated to promoting and practicing equality since its inception — is backing the cause via monthly music events held at its hotels all across the country. With DJs, exclusive room packages, guest surprises, cocktails and more, the TIUFC events are a celebration of how far we’ve come and a commitment to enacting real and lasting change.”

Jennifer Hudson is part of that program as well.

“I’m very connected to the gay community, and it’s something I’m passionate about,” Hudson told People magazine about the partnership. “It only makes sense. This is my way of returning it.”

While the appearance was a strong show of support for same-sex marriage by Jennifer Hudson, it was also likely the memory of a lifetime for Chris and Scott.
