Protestors Demand Kid Rock Sever Allegiance To Confederate Flag, He Has Vulgar Retort

Kid Rock doesn’t mince words. When protesters recently called for him to denounce the Confederate flag, the rocker had a choice response.

“Please tell the people who are protesting to kiss my a–.”

The comment is directed at protesters who gathered on Monday at the Detroit Historical Museum, where the rocker’s music is featured in an exhibit about the city’s musical heritage.

Protestors were there to shine a light on what they consider his cultural insensitivity, MSNBC reported.

Kid Rock, 44 and a Michigan native, is known to fly the flag proudly at his concerts, which he said is an homage to the Lynyrd Skynyrd tune “Sweet Home Alabama.” Long before the controversy erupted, following the shooting death of nine black people at a Charleston church in June, band member Gary Rossington said they’d no longer display it on stage. That was back in 2012.

The shooter, Dylan Roof, expressed white supremacist tendencies and flew the controversial symbol himself. The musician’s comments at protesters come as the controversy has peaked. Those against its presence in government buildings, retailers, and sporting events earned a victory when the South Carolina legislature voted to remove it from the Statehouse Friday.

Protestors see it as a symbol of racism and hatred.

Like many others, Kid Rock has said in the past that his feelings about black people are unrelated to his devotion to the Confederate flag, E! Online added.

“I’ve never flown that flag with any hate in my heart. Not one ounce. I love America. I love Detroit, and I love black people.”

The rocker also has a biracial son, Robert Ritchie Jr., who he won sole custody of 15 years ago.

Nonetheless, protestors and activists are directing their ire at the star, asking him to stop displaying it at his shows and emblazoning it on merchandise. They also want him publicly state his opposition to the image, USA Today added.

“How in the hell can Kid Rock represent Detroit and wave that flag just generating millions and millions in ticket sales – a flag that represents genocide to most of Detroit?” asked Sam Riddle, political director of the National Action Network, which protested on Monday.

No one knows whether or not Kid Rock has actually flown it at his concerts recently, but on Monday, he was seen with its likeness on a flask.

Protesters also want the museum to remove the Confederate colors from its exhibit on the musician. And if he doesn’t meet their demands, protesters plan to boycott the museum.

NASCAR has recently denounced the southern standard as well.
