‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Might Be Directed By Colin Trevorrow, And That Upsets Fans
With this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) officially underway, there is bound to be plenty of chatter about highly anticipated projects such as all of the upcoming Star Wars films, including Episode IX.
Today, it was announced that the final installment in the new Star Wars trilogy may have found its director, and it’s someone whose most recent film is dominating the box office.
According to Heroic Hollywood, Jurassic World director Colin Tervorrow is rumored to be helming Star Wars: Episode IX. The Comic-Con panel for Star Wars is set for later today, and that’s when Lucasfilm will formally announce that Trevorrow is directing the film.
As Star Wars fans already know, J.J. Abrams is the director of Episode VII, which is set for release later this year. Meanwhile, Looper director Rian Johnson will be working on Episode VIII, and Godzilla’s Gareth Edwards is directing Rogue One. One announcement that came prior to the start of SDCC was that a spinoff film focusing on a young Han Solo is currently in development. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the same people behind The Lego Movie and the 21 Jump Street movie, are slated to direct. There is no word yet on who will play the iconic character.
Lucasfilm has snagged a lot of successful filmmakers for all the new Star Wars films, and after the success of Jurassic World, it’s almost no surprise that they wanted to get Trevorrow onboard. But, creatively speaking, Collider’s Adam Chitwood found the announcement of Trevorrow helming Episode IX to be “disappointing.”
“Trevorrow’s Jurassic World is forgettable, lacking the kind of tension-filled action sequences or delightful character moments that would point to greater success in the realm of big budget filmmaking.”
Chitwood is not the only person who seems to be disappointed by the announcement. Here is what some people have said on Twitter.
I’ll believe Trevorrow/Episode IX rumour when I hear it from Kathleen Kennedy. Not too excited for that to happen, to be honest.

Colin Trevorrow directing #StarWars Episode IX is a little worrying. Jurassic World may of done big box office, it’s not a stellar film tho

Please don’t let Trevorrow direct Episode IX.

I wasn’t nearly as critical of Jurassic World as many others were but I still really don’t want Colin Trevorrow on Star Wars Episode IX.
