Kids Juvenile Detention: Lunch With Dad Refusal Lands Kids Behind Bars [Video]

A judge in Michigan has put three children behind bars after they refused to eat lunch with their dad and the incident has sparked outrage among many. As reported by Fox News, Oakland County Judge Lisa Gorcyca sent three kids to a juvenile detention facility until they were 18-years-old because they were not willing to hang out with their father.

On June 24, shortly after sentencing the kids to spend time at a juvenile detention facility called Children’s Village, the judge called the case one of the worst examples of parental alienation she’s ever seen. Gorcyca also compared the kids to convicted killer and cult leader, Charles Manson, while explaining that their dad is a “good man.”

According to Daily Tribune News, the judge declared the children of Maya Tsimhoni — ages 9, 10, and 15 — in contempt of court last month and ordered them held at the juvenile detention facility until they attempt to have a relationship with their father or until they turn 18.

“We’ll review it when school starts, and you may be going to school there,” Gorcyca told the children during a hearing. As of the time of this report, the kids have been at the juvenile detention facility for over two weeks.

The lawyers called the verdict shocking, of course, and they said that they’ve never heard of such a judgment. The mother’s attorney, Lisa Stern, gave the following statement to My Fox Detroit.

“I have been doing family law for 20 years and I must say this shocks the conscience. I think we have a court with the best interest of children in mind. I think the judge was very concerned about the reunification of this family, but went about it the wrong way.”

Some are calling the judge’s punishment absurd and Facebook groups and petitions have been launched to protest the ruling. The eldest son protested against the ruling and he tried to explain to the judge why he does not want to spend time with his dad.

“But I do not apologize for — for not talking to him because I have a reason for that and that’s because he’s violent and he — I saw him hit my mom and I’m not gonna talk to him,” the boy told the judge. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“No, you did,” the judge countered. “You — I ordered you to talk to your father. You chose not to talk to your father. You defied a direct court order. It’s direct contempt, so I am finding you guilty of civil contempt.”

The bizarre ruling stems from a messy divorce between the kids’ mother and father that involved allegations of parental kidnapping and alienation. Their mother wasn’t happy at all with the judge’s ruling and she later told reporters that she “felt like she was watching them be executed.”

“No matter how bad the divorce gets, I think the court should not punish the kids for that,” Tsimhoni said.
