‘Sims 4’ Free Update Adds Locking Doors, Half Wall Build Options

Two highly-requested features are now available in The Sims 4 via a free update to the game. Players can now lock doors and place half walls in their buildings, keeping things more private or open depending on the feature used. The free update adding locking doors and half walls is available now for every owner of The Sims 4 to download. These free additions of expanded features join aspects like basements and extra floors to the construction of buildings in The Sims 4.

Locked doors will go a long way for players with the Get to Work expansion pack who want to keep patrons out of private areas of a home or business. Players can lock doors with certain Sims in mind with the “Lock Door For” function. Later, by using the “Allow Access For” function, players can essentially unlock the door per individual or unlock it completely. New gender-specific doors are also available in the update, letting players set up divided bathrooms for male and female Sims.

“If you’re tired of random Sims walking into your Sim’s room and taking a nap on their bed at 2:00AM, you’ll be able to prevent that with door locks.”

The Sims 4 update also adds new half walls in a variety of sizes. Five different sizes of half wall options are now available to players. A standard half wall to use as a barrier between open space and the standard countertop found within the game is included. However, four other sizes of half walls, or partial walls, are also included. One is so short it can be used as a border piece while others are tall enough for Sims to place and access decorations.

“Half walls are super easy to place, too – if you’ve ever put a fence down in The Sims 4, you already know how to build a half wall.”

A number of issues were fixed with the update, including general performance improvements alongside overall tuning to gameplay. Interested players should check out the ever-growing list of patch notes for The Sims 4. The most current patch is listed first with previous patches to follow.

The Sims 4 regularly updates with free patches like these and other paid DLC. In fact, a new “Spa Day” game pack is coming out next week, letting players place a new spa venue. Like “Outdoor Retreat,” players can expect a whole new way to experience something new with their Sims. Of course, stuff packs are also available, adding new objects centered around a theme like luxury items or patio furniture.
