Jared Fogle: Florida Woman Wore Wire To Assist Investigation Of The Subway Spokesman

An unidentified Sarasota, Florida, woman claims she wore a wire during conversations with Subway spokesman Jared Fogle. According to Fox 59, Federal officials confirmed that her tip and wired conversations provided crucial information leading to the Tuesday morning raid of Jared Fogle’s home.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Jared Fogle’s Zionsville home was searched by FBI agents, Indiana State Police, and the U.S. Postal service. Several items, including computers, DVDs, and Fogle’s cell phone were taken away in an evidence truck. Fogle’s attorney, Ron Elberger, provided a statement Wednesday saying Fogle was cooperating fully with investigators, and that he had not been arrested or charged with any crime.

“Jared has been cooperating, and continues to cooperate, with law enforcement in their investigation of unspecified charges and looks forward to its conclusion. He has not been detained, arrested or charged with any crime or offense.”

The former Subway pitchman still has not been charged with any crime, and his attorney told WWSB the woman’s allegation is “an unrealistic fabrication.”

The woman did not provide details about her conversations with Jared Fogle, but said he would sometimes say inappropriate things. At one point, his remarks were so disturbing she she decided to alert the FBI.

“He said something to me when we were off camera and that really stuck with me. I thought to myself, ‘did he really say that to me?’ “

After doing so, she claims the FBI asked her to wear a wire to record her phone conversations with Fogle.

“It was the right thing to do, and I was able to do it and I have fortitude to do it. That’s the main reason I did this.”

The woman told the news station Jared Fogle’s shocking comments were similar “to what the FBI found when they raided his home.”

“The subject matter is similar to what the FBI found when they raided his home. It goes deeper than that. That’s exactly what started this. When I presented it to the FBI the first thing that they said to me is, ‘Is this who I think this is?’ and I said ‘yes it is,’ and it just went full gear after that.”

The raid on Jared Fogle’s home comes just two months after the arrest of the former director of Fogle’s Jared Foundation — a nonprofit for the prevention of childhood obesity. Russell Taylor was charged with several counts of production and possession of child pornography. He was arrested after a woman he was exchanging texts of sexual nature with reported him to police when he said some alarming things to her.

Following Russell Taylor’s arrest, Jared Fogle released a statement saying he was “shocked” by the allegations against the employee, and that his foundation had cut all ties with him.

Jared Fogle became the well-known face of Subway after losing weight on his own unique diet in college. Fogle ate two Subway meals a day and eventually lost 245 pounds. Subway featured him in an ad campaign that boosted the chain’s healthy image. Subway and Fogle maintained their business relationship over 16 years, until parting ways this week due to the ongoing investigation.
