NBA Free Agents: Kevin Seraphin Is Drawing Interest From Four Teams, Including Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks lost out on their “center of the future” when DeAndre Jordan had a change of heart and decided to stay with the Los Angeles Clippers.

If there is good news for the Mavs, it is they have a lot of money to spend — around $18 million in cap space according to the Washington Post — and they do have a Plan B, which is to go after free agent Kevin Seraphin or Amar’e Stoudemire. The bad news is that Dallas will have a lot of competition for both players.

Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops (@MikeAScotto) tweeted that the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, and San Antonio Spurs are also interested in the six-foot, 10-inch, 274-pounder.

ESPN is reporting that Seraphin, who has spent his entire professional career with the Wizards, wants to go some place where he is going to start. Given that bit of information it appears that the Mavs and the Lakers are the most likely destinations for the fifth-year pro. Phoenix could also be an option if the Suns trade Markieff Morris, as rumored.

“There’s a slim chance Seraphin, 25, could return to Washington, Wizards Insider Jorge Castillo wrote. “The team lacks young big men and could use another one after acquiring wing depth in Jared Dudley, Gary Neal and Alan Anderson. But the Wizards have conducted business this summer under the assumption that Seraphin would move on. They could keep their 15th roster spot vacant or re-sign Drew Gooden III instead. Seraphin is a potent low-post scorer, but Gooden can spread the floor as a three-point threat at a fraction of the cost.”

Seraphin averaged 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15.6 minutes of action while appearing in 79 games last season. He made 51.3 percent of his shots. Seraphin didn’t make any starts last year and has only started 31 of the 326 games he has appeared in. For his career, Seraphin averages 6.4 points and 3.7 rebounds.

Seraphin is very tough to move on the block and has a solid hook shot. He has also shown the ability to knock down mid-range jumpers on a consistent basis. Seraphin is a good rebounder and decent shot blocker, but lacks dexterity on the defensive end.

Seraphin is not good in pick-n-roll situation and does not pass the ball once he gets the ball in the post. Additionally, he has a tendency to foul a lot on the defensive end.

Stoudemire, as Inquisitr previously reported, also has a bunch of teams interested in him. However, Stoudemire may soon be off the market as he is reportedly close to signing with the Miami Heat according CBS Miami.

“While many feel Stoudemire’s ‘defense’ should forever be typed in quotes, the 32-year-old can still score the ball at an efficient rate, especially around the rim. Amar’e also continues to be formidable in the pick-and-roll as the screener, converting 1.16 points per possession on that play type in Dallas, good for the 83rd percentile in the NBA. Miami also offers two of the league’s most dynamic attackers in Goran Dragic and Dwyane Wade, which should mesh well with Stoudemire as the roll man.”

Ryan Hollins and Justin Hamilton are among several free agents with NBA experience still available.
