Cobie Smulders’ Broken Leg Forces Actress To Exit HBO’s ‘Confirmation’

Cobie Smulders’ broken leg has thrown a major wrench in the star’s plans for her next project. The former How I Met Your Mother star was set to star in the HBO movie Confirmation, but now it seems she has had to drop out.

According to Us Weekly, Cobie Smulders’ broken leg is the reason for the departure from the Anita Hill movie. The Avengers star was just about to begin filming when she learned of the issue, and it seems she had not even realized she had broken her leg.

Sources indicate that when Smulders was dealing with pain in her leg, she decided to get it checked out by a doctor, and she was surprised to learn it was actually broken. While she doesn’t know quite how the injury occurred, it was problematic enough that she had to drop out of the film.

Confirmation is set to star Scandal actress Kerry Washington, along with Newsroom and American Horror Story star Grace Gummer. The Good Wife star Dylan Baker, as well as Boardwalk Empire and Daredevil actor Peter McRobbie, are also involved in the project. The movie covers the story of Anita Hill’s allegations of sexual harassment against Judge Clarence Thomas during his nomination for the Supreme Court.

Entertainment Tonight Canada notes that Smulders was slated to play the role of lawyer Harriet Grant. The lawyer was one of the top Democratic lawyers involved in the Hill interviews during the Thomas Senate hearings. So far, no replacement for the role has been revealed.

Others involved in the all-star cast include Jennifer Hudson, Parenthood’s Erika Christensen, Rake’s Greg Kinnear, and Modern Family actor Eric Stonestreet. Though no specific premiere date has been revealed as of yet, Confirmation is expected to air on HBO in 2016.

The Canadian native has kept a full slate of projects over the past few years, even accounting for the HIMYM series ending last year. Cobie has played the role of Maria Hill in both the Avengers series and on the television show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and she’s had numerous other movie and television projects hit screens, as well.

In addition to her busy work schedule, Smulders also has two young daughters with husband Taran Killam. The couple has 6-year-old Shaelyn, and they welcomed another baby girl six months ago, though they have not revealed her name, notes Daily Mail. The couple got engaged in January, 2009, and tied the knot in September, 2012. The HIMYM star also recently opened up about a prior battle she went through with cancer, something she kept entirely under wraps at the time.

Fans are a bit worried to hear of Cobie Smulders’ broken leg, especially considering that she doesn’t know how she broke it and didn’t realize she had an issue until some time after the injury. While her dropping out of Confirmation is a disappointment to her fans, everybody sends their well wishes and hope she’s back on her feet again soon.
