Jennifer Garner Relinquishes Elektra Role To Elodie Yung, Affleck ‘Devastated’ Over Split

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have experienced their share of turmoil and media attention as of late. The two announced their intention to split after weeks of extensive speculation surrounded the couple’s marriage, who had recently hit their 10-year wedding anniversary mark.

The two met on set of the action flick Daredevil back in 2003, in which Garner portrayed the character known as Elektra. News has now broken that Garner will pass the Elektra costume over to 34-year old Elodie Yung.

Marvel Television communicated their reasoning for selecting Yung as the new featured female within their latest film. Daredevil executive producer Jeph Loeb released a statement as reported by the Daily Mail.

“After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity.”

Yung is no stranger to the big screen nor to action, tough-girl roles. She’s appeared in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and District 13: Ultimatum,. Garner, now 43, was not so much stripped of her role as eased onto new projects that better complement her current situation. She was, however, one fantastic Elektra back in the day and would likely still do the role justice if it were up for grabs.

For now, it seems that Jen and Ben have got some sorting to do and realities to face. According to Focus News, Affleck has admitted to being “devastated” by the recently announced end of the marriage during which he fathered three beautiful children.

Since the couple came forward about their intended split, rumors of infidelity as the main reason for calling it quits have been sparked and are flying about. After meeting and falling in love on the Daredevil set, enjoying 10 years in what seemed a beautiful marriage, and welcoming their three little ones, it is a shame to see the two go their separate ways; whatever the reason.

A source close to Affleck recently came forward about the Gone Girl star and Garner’s reality.

“These are two people who really tried to save their marriage and worked really hard at it. Ultimately they had grown apart and they did what was best for their kids.”

Reportedly, Ben is ensuring that he remains a part of his children’s lives by moving to another house on the grounds of the couple’s Pacific Palisades home in California. A mediator has also been enlisted to help the couple divide their earnings.

The insider describes the process that Jen and Ben are working through.

“These are things that they have consciously done because they want to make sure that this is as easy as they can make it on the kids.”
