Candace Bure Defends Bakery: Actress Defends Bakery That Refused To Make Wedding Cake For Gay Couple

Candace Cameron Bure got into a cake debate with Raven Symoné on The View, as the two women just didn’t see eye to eye on the topic. According to Fox News Insider, Bure and Symoné had a pretty heated exchange when talking about an Oregon bakery that was fined for refusing to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple.

“The Oregon law bars businesses from discriminating against sexual orientation, race, disability, age or religion, and to me, it’s the same exact thing that they did back in the day saying that black people couldn’t do certain things because it’s my ‘religious belief,’ ” said Raven.

“I don’t think this is discrimination at all. This is about freedom of association, it’s about constitutional rights, it’s about First Amendment rights. We do have the right to still choose who we associate with,” countered Cameron.

Candace Cameron Bure said the cake probably only cost $200, and that the $135,000 was simply “unconscionable.” According to Us Weekly, the discussion broke out at The View table during the popular “Hot Topics” segment. Candace, 39, called an “ultra-conservative Christian,” stuck to her guns throughout the debate, explaining that the bakery (in her opinion) wasn’t refusing the bake the cake because the two women were gay, they were refusing to bake the cake because they don’t believe in gay marriage.

“[The bakery] didn’t refuse to bake the cake because of [the couple’s] sexual orientation. In fact, they baked cakes for them previously. They had a problem with the actual ceremony because that — the ceremony — is what conflicted with their religious beliefs. They are saying that they stand for marriage between a man and a woman.”

Raven, of course, argued that the two go hand-in-hand in a situation like this one.

Candace Cameron Bure’s cake comments reignited an internet debate on a story that was reported back in April. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the owners of “Sweet Cakes” were taken to court, and were forced to pay the hefty fine earlier this month.

“For years, we’ve heard same-sex marriage will not affect anybody. I’m here firsthand to tell everyone in America that it has already impacted people. Christians, get ready to take a stand. Get ready for civil disobedience,” said co-owner Aaron Klein (he owns the shop with his wife, Melissa).

Do you think Cameron Candace Bure has a point? Or do you think Raven Symoné is right?
