‘Think Like A Man’ Surpasses ‘The Hunger Games’ With $33 Million


Date-night movies Think Like a Man and The Lucky One have managed to knock The Hunger Games out of the #1 box-office position.

Think Like a Man was based on a best-seller on dating advice by Steve Harvey. According to the studio, the movie debut as the top weekend hit as it pulled in an estimated $33 million. More than twice as much as studio executives expected to pull. The movie features Gabrielle Union, Michael Ealy, and Taraji P. Hendson.

The Hunger Games slipped to the #3 spot after having raised a domestic total of $356.9 million over the course of four outstanding weeks at the top.

Chimpanzee, Disney’s new nature documentary, opened at #4 with $10.2 million behind Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games with $14.5 million.

Warner Bros. drama, titled The Lucky One, is an adaptation of a romance novel by Nicholas Sparks. The movie, which stars Zac Efron, opened at #2 with $22.8 million and came in a slightly higher than studio expectations.

With the weekend still not over, Sony executives estimated the movie could very well pull in roughly $17 million for the duration of the entire weekend. Rory Bruer, head of distribution at Sony, was quoted by Y! News having said:

“It was a wild ride. It just got better and better as the night went on Friday. Then to be up so much on Saturday.”

Over the same weekend last year, the movie Fast Five debut and pulled $86.2 million.

Trailing in at #5 is The Three Stooges with $9.2 million, at #6 we have The Cabin in the Woods with $7.8 million, and finally at #7 we have American Reunion with $5.2 million.

The final figures will be released Monday for all of the weekend hits including Think Like a Man.
