Miss California Anti-Gay Marriage Scandal Heats Up

Miss California, who lost the Miss USA crown over her anti-gay marriage comments in answer to Perez Hilton’s question, has spoken out in an interview with Access Hollywood today.
Miss California, Carrie Prejean had this to say on the show:
“I feel like I won. I feel like I’m the winner. I really do,” noting that on Monday, she had 1,000 messages on Facebook and 2,000 friend requests. She adds that her answer “did cost me my crown. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do. It is a very touchy subject and he [Perez] is a homosexual and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would’ve wanted me to be more politically correct. But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.”
The comments Miss California made in response to Perez Hilton’s question, sparked major controversy both during and after the Miss USA pageant and in the subsequent media backlash. There were allegedly shouting matches in the lobby after the show aas people argued both in support of and against her feelings about gay marriage.
In the interview with Access Hollywood, Miss California, Carrie Prejean also revealed this:
“My [heterosexual] sister is a second lieutenant in the Air Force and she is a gay rights activis.
As for her comment quoted above about “…raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.”
Bigot.

I am in agreement with Miss Prejean. NO ONE should ever compromise any of his/her personal beliefs due to popular politics. Carrie Prejean – I will admire and aplaud you for standing up for what you truly believe.
Apr 20, 2009
I agree with what you said 100 percent. If that cost you the crown so be it. The left wing in this country is out of hand. If saying what you belive cost you the crown. It aint worth having anyway. So i am proud to have you as a worthy person in this good old U.S.A. Hang in there
Apr 20, 2009
She is disgusting and dumb.
Apr 20, 2009
I am sure that she will be doing the talk show rounds now. I am also certain that Sean Hannity and all of the right wing hosts on Fox will be singing her praise and she will make guest appearances on their shows.
Apr 20, 2009
This is not a left wing or right wing issue. I am a democrat and I believe marriage is between one man and one woman. It seems like nowadays you have to check your believes and morals at the door and are inclined to lie to avoid offending others. I respect Ms California for being true to herselft and not playing politics to win the crown.
Apr 20, 2009
Did any of the other questions have to do with religious beliefs? Our country was founded on Biblical principals, so why should this particular one be ignored?
Apr 20, 2009
Paul,
I love how you can call someone a bigot and think it means something.
Are you not a hypocrite, just to use the term, thinking that you are tolerant of others when you are not.
Apr 20, 2009
she's right and marriage in as it woman and man ,not man and man or woman and woman ,you pork head gay dorks !!
Apr 20, 2009
What does Miss California's beliefs regarding gay marriage have to do with representing the United States when she exercised her freedom of free speach with great pride which qualifiys her for the crown moreso than someone who would lie in reponse to a totally inappropriate question to judge her worthiness to hold the title. Will Miss North Carolina loose her crown if she speaks out against gay marriage? I think not. But the idiot who asked the question should never be asked to judge anything in the future including the pig races at the county fair. Hold your head high Miss California.
Apr 20, 2009
Ever heard of sepeation of church and state?
Apr 20, 2009
I agree 100% with Miss California and I applaud her for being honest enough to say what her true feelings and beliefs are. I also believe that if gay people have the right to be married and also get the insurance benefits of their other half, then so should the couples that are living together. After all wouldn't that be considered being married too? After all it's no different that what the gay people are doing except for they have a piece of paper that doesn't mean squat in the eyes of true Christians and most importantly, God.
Apr 20, 2009
Well said JoJo,
What a sniveling little cheap shot against someone who is loyal to their beliefs.
The left equals no free speech except theirs equals bigots themselves. HA!
Apr 20, 2009
A perfect example that there is no longer such thing as free speech … unless you speak in the expected polictically correct terms. It's not only accepted, it seems to be encouraged these days to talk trash about the United States, anybody conservative, or Republican, anybody white, or anybody Christian … but don't you DARE have an opion that isn't shared by the minority groups. GOD BLESS YOU CARRIE PREJEAN. IN MY OPINION YOU HAVE REFUSED TO SELL YOURSELF OUT AND YOU HAVE FAR EXCEEDED THE LIMITED EXPECTATIONS OF THE CROWN.
Apr 20, 2009
Good for her. I am a Dem. and I'm glad she stood up for her beliefs. She has the right to favor male-female marriage just like someone has the right to favor homosexual marriage.
She was asked the question and that was her opinion.
Apr 20, 2009
Just because you believe that Marriage is between and man and a woman in no way makes you a bigot. That is what has been called the traditional marriage. The fact that people are trying to redefine marriage to include homosexuals shows that. She did not say she was anti-gay or anti-gay rights. She only said that she believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Maybe you should call her traditional.
Apr 20, 2009
There have been such strides for human rights– and equal rights for all people regardless of gender, age, or sexual orientation. But the blonde bimbo is true to her “family values.” Now, just what if that sister in the military who's a gay rights activist turns out to be gay?? Will Miss California's family values have room for the WHOLE family?
By the way– I've been in a relationship with another man for more than 30 years who is a cousin of a former Miss Congeniality in the Miss America pageant. The most congenial thing is inclusiveness– and equal rights for all citizens. If a Miss USA wanna be doesn't get that– then it's best she doesn't represent America's diverse family.
Apr 20, 2009
And I'm sure CNN and all the left wing host will be degrading her for having a belief that is not theirs.
Apr 20, 2009
Good for her!! Not only is she beautiful, but courageous as well. I share her opinions about gay marriage. It should be illegal and not allowed. It makes a mockery of traditional marriage. I men and men and women and women were meant to be married to the same sex, we would all be Amoeba's! I do not condone the beating, or killing, of gay people, but I DO believe they should not have the same rights as traditional married people OR have the same benefits. I have had, and have now, coworkers and friends that were/are gay. They are good people. They do not make any attempt to change me over to their point of view and I have no problem working with them. I am, as I said, however, opposed to them marrying. Simple as that.
Apr 20, 2009
Who is writing all the neg. stuff about Miss Calif. voicing her opinion ? All the QUEERS that's who. Freaks of nature that's who. Sicko' that's who!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apr 20, 2009
Amen!!!!
Apr 20, 2009
James seems determined to calling names in order to prove his point. Typically this means that one is having trouble proving their point. Labeling Miss California a “dumb blond” doesn't make your point any stronger or change the minds of people that don't share your opinion. And living with a man for 30 years who is related to a former Miss Congeniality doesn't make your point any stronger either. It doesn't change the fact that not everybody believes the same way that you do, and that fact alone doesn't make someone a anti-human rights.
Apr 20, 2009
Gays don't need marriage and illegal immigrants don't need free health care. America is changing in a bad way and if you don't follow the left wing socialist politically correct bandwagon you are out! It's worse than McCarthyism… talk about intolerance.
Apr 20, 2009
There's more than one take on “Biblical principals”. As far as marriage was concerned, in Biblical times plural marriage was common and women had NO rights– that is property rights, survival rights, etc. They were, more or less, property. Homosexuality is not mentioned in the Bible– dehumanizing someone is another matter. And the New Testament says that nothing that God has made clean (through forgiveness and rescuing us from an imperfect and mortal world) can be made profane. Better make “what would Jesus do” on of your Biblical principals. The letter of “the law” can seem pretty harsh– but you can't pick and choose. Fortunately the Bible tells us that the whole law is fulfilled in the commandment to “love God with all your heart and mind and love your neighbor as yourself.” That would include your gay neighbor– who was created as they are by God just like anyone else.
Apr 20, 2009
Where has freedom of speech gone for people who not express the feelings of a minority with power?
Apr 20, 2009
Bill you are clearly a moron. And Gbbrrt –sorry about the “blonde bimbo” comment– but do we really need beauty pageants for political commentary? You may feel the way you do– and she can feel the way she does– but it doesn't give you the right to infringe on other people's civil rights just because of sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity. That's called America… As the bumper sticker says “Hate is not a family value.” Neither is it an American value.
As for Miss California voicing her opinion– she has every right. She's offtrack, however, by saying that that's why she “lost the crown.”
Apr 20, 2009
ONCE YOU SEPARATE THE CHURCH FROM STATE THER WILL BE ANARCHY. MAN CANNOT BE WITHOUT THE LAWS OF GOD. IT'S NATURE IS ANIMALISTIC, SO WE WILL ALWAYS NEED CHURCH TO KEEP MAN CIVILIZED. WITHOUT CHURCH FAMILIES WILL FAIL, THEN SOCIETIES AND THEN NATIONS. UNITED STATES WILL FAIL WITH PEOPLE LIKE STEVE. GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES.
Apr 20, 2009
Dr. Ralph– I hope you're not a physician. Immigrants– with or without a greencard– do not get free healthcare. And, by the way, someone I know from Latin American WITH a green card waiting 18 hours in the waiting room at County Hospital in Los Angeles with a dangerously inflamed gall bladder. He was told they were too busy– come back in three weeks and take these pain pills. They PAID for that diagnosis– and the next day he had emergency gall bladder surgery at another hospital. A generous employer and friend of the family paid for that one–
By the way– the guy's daughter has served two tours in Afghanistan and two in Iraq in the U.S. Army. So *#!! you!
Apr 20, 2009
you can still love someone and not agree with them, initially sin needs forgiven , if they follow Christ well thats up to them. But please do not romanticize God with Jesus Christ, if you belive the Bible like you wrote , He exemplifies just how harsh sin is, Sin caused death, and Christ died for sin,
Apr 20, 2009
And does your remark make you look smart??? I doubt it. This woman said what she believes and a no mind by the name of Perez Hilton was doing nothing more than trying to bait Miss California. He figured he could get her to say what he wanted. Lets face it,; Perez Hilton is most likely gay. The fact that the Miss America board let him be a judge shows poor jusdgement on there part. Not because he is gay but because of his history. She probably would have won if she lied about what she felt was right. She showed she was more than worthy of the crown title. M Anthony I would like to say “Your Fired”.
Apr 20, 2009
Amen! Kudos Miss California for having the courage and the strength to stand up for your beliefs! She embodies strength of character and an embodiment of the true Miss USA!
Apr 20, 2009
Straight people make a mockery out of “traditional” marriage all by themselves. Less than half the marriages succeed. What should be illegal, perhaps, is divorce. My taxes pay for services for the children of all these folks.
And your poor co-workers! “They're good people.” Only they don't deserve the same benefits as you??? Isn't it big of you to work with them.
Apr 20, 2009
By the way– read the scientific facts about overpopulation.
Apr 20, 2009
As you have cited from the Bible … I do love my neighbor(s) gay and straight … but I don't have sex with them, and I don't have to approve of, support or encourage my neighbors homosexulity to love them.
Apr 20, 2009
James – If God wanted men to marry men, wouldn't He have created Adam and Elmer instead of Adam and Eve?
Apr 20, 2009
James, before you go representing The Bible, go read it. Paul and Jesus spoke out about homosexuality.
About God making things clean…this text refers to things that can be eaten. John was speaking to ancient Jews about God revealing to Him that whatever man chooses to eat, as long as the food was blessed or God was thanked for it, it was clean. This is symbolism that the Law of Moses was removed by the death and resurrection of Christ. Christ's resurrection abolished the law because no one could keep it. God gave us Christ because he knew no one could keep the law. He (Christ) became our sacrifice. Therefore, anyone who is in Christ (or accepts his death for their sins) is a new person. If one has that life changing experience they will want to grow more like Jesus…this in turn grows them closer to God. If someone continues in paths of unrighteousness then they are not growing in Christ, but living in sin. If they have truly had the salvation experience, they will despise sin because the Glory of God is being revealed to them by the Holy Spirit. Yes, they will still sin, but they will not want to. That sin will separate them from closeness with God, but they still have their salvation. The New Testament is very specific about abolishing the law and no one being able to live by it. If they could live by the law or were without sin, they would not need Jesus. Romans states all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. That is why Jesus abolished the law with his death and resurrection. It is our new covenant with God. All we have to do is accept the gift. We can't love our neighbor as our self. We can only try to love Jesus and grow closer to God. We can't not be hipocrits, we are sinners, even if we are saved by God's grace through Jesus….we are human and we need a savior and forgiveness.
I do not hate homosexuals, I hate the sin that separates them from God. I do not hate any sinner for any sin…I just hate the sin. And, God tells us too, becuase it separates us from Him.
Paul also teaches us that the Body is a Temple of God, for those who have experienced salvation. They are indwelt with the Holy Spirit. If the body is a Temple of God how then can someone descecrate the body with sexual activity, adultery, homosexuality or anything other than sex between a husband and his wife within the bounds of marriage and be sanctified? They can't! God designed us male and female to reproduce and Glorify Him. Homosexual partners can not do that, if we were all homosexuals how could we continue the human race. This is not God's plan it is Satan's plan to try and destroy humans to separate them from God.
I am a sinner, I am the chief of sinners, I am a miserable existance of a man, but I am saved by Grace and I am a friend of God who will spend eternity with him. I do not judge, I love and try to show God's love. I will teach what God has taught us through is Holy Word the Bible.
Satan believes in God, then maybe we should too. And if we believe in God and trust in Him, then maybe we should believe His Words. What might our world look like if we all lived according to the New Testament?………………Probably like Heaven!
Thanks for reading…..God Bless.
I referenced text from Paul's writing in Acts, Romans, Corinthians and Galatians. I also referenced the Gospel of John. Please go and read them for yourself.

James,
I am not sure where you got your copy of the Bible? The Bible does in fact speak of homosexuality. In the old testament it says the punishment for homosexuality was death by stoning. The New testament clearly states that homsexuals will not inherit the kingdom of God.
It seems to me you have read that parts that support what you chose to believe. To say that the Bible supports homosexualty just shows you havent read all of it.
If you dont believe what it says that is one thing but to speak as though you are familiar with the contents of the Bible when you are leaving out the parts that contradict your personal preference doesnt make a very strong argument. Seems like you are picking and choosing as well.
The Bible teaches that mankind rebelled against God and as a result lost most of what was good. He did not create anyone to be homosexual that came after we lost our God given morality.
Again, you have the choice to believe it or not but I encourge you to take another look so that you know what it says.
God does love all but he will also hold all acountable for thier actions
Apr 20, 2009
For those of you who have read our Constitution….it demands separation of Church and State. That was because the oppression of the Roman church on prodestants. It was also to keep the church from becoming corrupt with governmental powers.
Separation of Church and State simply means we do not have church officers ruling or running our government. Last time I checked no church ruler was mandating laws in congress.
Separation of Church and State does not have anything to do with proclaiming God in any of our founding documents or on our money. Our countries founders actually encouraged that. They did not encourage pastors and fathers, cardnals, bishops or Popes ruling the country and making people believe a National religion.
This action by Hilton and the California contestant has nothing to do with separation of Church and State. It just has to do with two people being raised differently and both having the constitutional right to have differing opinions.
Apr 20, 2009
Perez Hilton is “most likely” gay? Sweetheart, he's as gay (and out about it) as they come. However, if you think *his* feelings about her answer to that *one* question was enough to “lose her the crown” then I think both you and Ms. Prejean are beyond paranoid.
Apr 20, 2009
You said:
“Paul and Jesus spoke out about homosexuality.”
Well, Paul did say something about it, but Jesus never did. If you're going to lecture someone on the bible, at least get the facts straight. (pun intended)
Apr 20, 2009
My comment was to say the question should not have been ask because it is a religious belief not a political decision. Your “interpretaion” of the Bible and mine may not be the same, but just because I disagree with you does not mean I don't love you or that I want harm to come to you. I pray for Americans every day, all of them and that includes you.
May you have abundant life in Christ, today!
Apr 20, 2009
That's my point! Don't ask a question about a religious belief and say it should be voted on. Our country is suppose to be about religious freedom to worship God, not freedom to ignore or legalize His rules.
May you have abundant life in Christ, today!
Apr 20, 2009
Adrian, my apologies for my previous text seeming like a lecture. My intent was to get the facts straight about the messages of the Bible. I went back and researched the text I was refering to and you are correct. Jesus did not mention “homosexuality” in the text i was mentioning.
I also thought it was in the Gospel of John, but it is Matthew. Here it is…
Matthew 15;16-20 So Jesus said, “are you also still without understanding? Do you not yet understand that what ever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.”
Thanks for the correction.
I do believe however (and I do mean I and am not speaking for anyone else) that Jesus is the Son of God. He became man but was also God. He is part of the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. I also believe that the Bible is the Holy infailable Word of God given to man. So, if I believe all that, then I guess it doesn't matter who is speaking in the Bible on behalf of God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit in regards to the righteousness of God. Therefore, even if Paul speaks out about homosexuality, he was speaking with authority from God. So technically, I was incorrect, but the principle remains.
My apologies again for seeming to lecture, just offering an opinion in a lively debate. I am obviously imperfect and in need of Grace
Apr 20, 2009
Adrian,
I also believe that the text found in Matthew 19: 4-6 is talks to God's view of marriage. It is Jesus speaking.
Matt 19: 4-6
And He (Jesus) answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined let together, let not man separate.”
yes, this does not specifically mention homosexuality, but it does give us God's view of marriage.
Apr 21, 2009
For your information Homosexuality is one of the main reasons why Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed,I suggest you read Genesis or the entire bible before you speak about whats not in there .In the book of Romans Chaper 1 verse 26-27-Paul is talking about how it is against nature. Countless other scriptures speak against it. PLEASE read your BIBLE!!!
Apr 21, 2009
Since I am not Christianity; but I am gay. Do I have that right gay marriage then. Believe your Bible all you want; but do not force your belief uppon me through the law
Apr 21, 2009
To Catreena:
How dare you express your worthless female opinion! I suggest *you* read your bible, and therein you will find the following sage advice…
The bible clearly says (Timothy 2:11-12): “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.”
You are a sinner, Catreena, for not practicing silence and submission, as demanded by your Bible. Your opinions as a woman are utterly worthless.
Jon.

It is pathetic that this is considered contraversy. Gay marriage was blocked in California. Much of America is against it. It is a topic of discussion in our Country at the moment. It is ignorant and childish for any one to condemn someone for standing up for there beliefs. I commend her for her strength and integrity. Just because she has a different opinion than a very loud gay minority does not make her wrong.
Apr 21, 2009
I truly believe that carrie was completely justified in her answer and any pageant or
Society that asks you to give up your right of free speech has the problem. There is no such thing as being politically correct when stating your true beliefs. I am shocked and appauled that the pageant authorites and Donald Trump himself would choose such a bias, unrestrained, and utterly obnoxious person to be a judge as Perez Hilton. What is our country and the American Constitution coming to?
Apr 21, 2009
“What is our country and the American Constitution coming to?”
Equal rights for all? I hope not! Gays are scum, and deserve to be treated as second class citizens… certainly not equally!

You hit the nail on the head.
Apr 22, 2009
Philip
This is such an exciting time. I am very proud of Carrie for standing up to defend her beliefs and millions of other Christians that will stand with her. If the enemy can stand and defend all manner of ignorance then its certainly time for the people of God to stand boldly for truth.
Apr 22, 2009
Amen to the truth.

He Did make us the same color. I am black and you are white….the lightest shade of Black. The Bible even says that out of darkness came light. the first man was found in Africa and as he migrate across the panacea into and inhabited colder regions his body adapted to the climate. At least that's what scientists think. I get the feeling that you are probably one of the people who think people in the bible were white, well you're wrong. The garden of Eden is smack dab in the middle of Iraq geographically and those people aren't white. When Moses asked God to give him a sign God told Moses to put his hand in his robe. When he pulled it out, he saw that it was leprous, as white as snow. So if he pulled a hand out that was white as snow,…what color was it in the first place?. Surely not white.

actually there are several references in the Bible Phillip. Look at Leviticus 18-3. also Leviticus 20- 13 in the King James Bible
Apr 25, 2009
misunderstood your statement Phillip sorry I agree.
