Jennifer Fichter: 22-Year Prison Sentence Given To Teacher Who Had Sex With Students

Jennifer Fichter has been sentenced to 22 years in prison after admitting that she had sexual relations with some of her students. According to the Canada Journal, Fichter was in court last week to learn her fate after she pleaded guilty to having inappropriate sexual relations with students at a Lakeland, Florida high school where she taught English.

“The case first came to light when one of the teen’s mother noticed her son’s behavior change. In that case Fichter admitted to getting pregnant by that teenager and getting an abortion. That teen’s mother spoke in court about how her son and her family are still negatively affected by the inappropriate relationship.”

Jennifer Fichter, who reportedly aborted a baby after being impregnated by a male student from Central Florida Aerospace Academy, was tearful when she addressed the court. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the older teens (particularly one 17-year-old male) may have “consented” to having sex with Fichter, but the judge told her that her actions were still illegal and very wrong, hence her punishment.

“I hate what I have done to y’all. What y’all have gone through because of my actions … I wish that I could take it back. But I can’t, and my words won’t suffice,” Fichter said. It is believed that some of her victims and their families were in the courtroom that day.

According to The Globe Dispatch, the judge wanted Fichter to know that she will have plenty of time to think about her wrongdoings and to fix her ways of thinking so that she’d come out of prison with a new perspective on life.

“You’re going to have a long time to think about what you did. I trust that your faith is real, and you’ll have a long time to let your faith work in your life so that when you come out you’re a different person. It bothered me that there was references to that faith and yet there was this activity.”

Jennifer Fichter is facing three charges of unlawful sexual activity in other Florida counties. If she is convicted on those charges, she may find herself behind bars for a much longer period of time. As it stood, the charges that she faced in Polk County each carried a maximum sentence of 15 years.
