Baby Found Side Of Road: Baltimore Woman Arrested After Leaving 6-Week-Old On Side Of Road

A baby was found on the side of the road in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, and a woman who claims to be the infant’s mother has been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to USA Today, Sandra McClary, 26, was taken into custody after police learned that she left the 6-week-old baby on the side of the road. The woman actually called police herself, gave a description of the child, and explained that she didn’t know what had happened to the baby, as she was supposed to be with her father. Police later learned that it was, indeed, the woman who dropped the baby off on the side of the road.

“An investigation determined that McClary removed the child from her vehicle and left her on the side of the road. Her vehicle matched a partial tag that officers established had left the area at around the time when the child was left there,” reports USA Today.

The baby found on the side of the road was taken to a local hospital, and was listed in good condition. According to the New York Daily News, police say that they found the baby girl in a “scuffed” carrier, and it seemed as though the carrier fell out of (or had been thrown from) a moving vehicle. Hearing this information, there is no question that this little girl is lucky to be alive.

Meanwhile, Sandra McClary has been charged with child neglect, and may face additional charges in the coming weeks.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, reports initially indicated that police believed that the baby was about 3-months-old. McClary told them that the little girl was actually just 6-weeks-old.

“McClary is being held Anne Arundel County Detention Center on a $500,000 bail. No word on whether the baby’s father has been contacted, or if he was involved or will be charged in the case of his abandoned daughter,” reports the Inquisitr.

The baby found on the side of the road is safe, and is in the custody of Child Protective Services. It is unknown if the little girl will be sent to live with family members or if she will be put up for adoption pending the outcome of her mother’s case.
