LA Lakers Rumors: Sixth Man Of The Year Signs Three-Year Deal With Lakers

LA Lakers rumors have the team signing Lou Williams to a three-year deal. With Williams, the Lakers have someone who could come off the bench and play for Kobe Bryant, should he suffer any additional injuries. A report from CBS Sports on Sunday (July 5) reveals that the Lakers will pay him about $21 million over those three seasons, working out to just about $7 million per year. As free agent deals go this offseason, that’s a pretty affordable one when compared to what some other guards have been making.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the Lakers had drawn close to signing a deal with big man Brandon Bass earlier in the day. It shows that the front office is trying to make moves to add to the depth of the roster, despite missing out on some of the bigger names in free agency. Even though DeAndre Jordan, Greg Monroe, and LaMarcus Aldridge decided to sign with other teams, the Lakers have still quietly put together a good roster during the NBA offseason. That includes getting Julius Randle back from injury and selecting D’Angelo Russell in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft.

Last season for the Toronto Raptors, Williams averaged 15.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, 2.1 assits, and 1.1 steals per game. He shot 34 percent from three-point range (making 152 on the season) and was a stellar 86.1 percent from the free throw line. Williams did all that in just 25.2 minutes a night for the Raptors, providing the team with a great spark off the bench. He will be 29 years old in the 2015-16 NBA season, and should bring that spark with him to Los Angeles. From that view alone, these LA Lakers rumors are great for the team.

One thing that Lakers fans might want to watch out for are games where the team struggles to hit shots. That makes three run-and-gun type players on the roster, with Lou Williams, Kobe Bryant, and Nick Young expected to all get big minutes. If newly drafted point guard D’Angelo Russell can help to get them a lot of open shots, maybe the overall shooting percentages won’t be as bad as projected. If not, though, this Lakers team might drive the coaches crazy on a nightly basis.

As far as the Williams signing goes, the price is right, and the team really needed to have another weapon coming off the bench. These LA Lakers rumors have to be viewed in a positive light, especially because it gives the team a lot more depth than it had last year. At least this roster should be able to score a lot of points, even if there are a lot of questions about the defense.
