Dallas Mavericks Rumors: Team Plans To Go After Jeremy Lin In Sign-And-Trade Deal With Lakers

The Dallas Mavericks are rumored to be hot on the trail of guard Jeremy Lin, but may need to take some outside-the-box measures to land him.

Reports indicate that the team is very interested in signing Lin, but lack the space to sign him to a deal. So they are exploring other options to pry him away from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Jeremy Lin is not the only rumored target for the Dallas Mavericks. Before the Mavericks won the DeAndre Jordan sweepstakes, reports indicated that the Mavs were looking into a deal for Indiana Pacers big man Roy Hibbert.

As the Indianapolis Star noted, Hibbert seems to have stalled in Indiana and may be losing his spot after the Pacers drafted big Texas freshman Myles Turner in June’s NBA Draft.

The report noted, “Hibbert, a two-time All-Star, struggled mightily in 2014-15, averaging his fewest points per game (10.6) since his rookie season (7.1). Larry Bird and Frank Vogel have stated time and time again the team’s desire to play a more up-tempo style — one that doesn’t fit Hibbert’s game.”

Signing Hibbert could also fit well into long-term plans for the Dallas Mavericks, ESPN‘s Tim McMahon reported.

“But trading for Hibbert, whose $15.5 million salary the Indiana Pacers would like to shed, would allow the Mavs to fill their vacancy at center without making a long-term financial commitment,” he wrote. “The 7-foot-2 Hibbert is in the final season of his contract.”

But it’s not clear if Hibbert could still be in the plans now that the Mavs have landed Jordan.

The Dallas Mavericks aren’t the only team hot on the trail of Jeremy Lin, however. The guard, who seems to have hit the wall in Los Angeles, is also on the radar of a handful of other teams.

Inside the Lakers explains:

“The Lakers expressed interest in retaining Lin after free agency began on Tuesday night, according to a league source familiar with the situation. Lin also fielded interest from several teams, including Dallas, Memphis, Indiana, Chicago, San Antonio and the Clippers, according to a league source. But before free agency began, both the Lakers and Lin felt lukewarm about a reunion for several reasons.”

The Dallas Mavericks are rumored to be looking beyond Jeremy Lin for help in the backcourt. They are also reportedly reaching out to Jason Terry for a possible reunion.
