Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Vow To Buy The Best

With pre-season training set to kick off on Monday, many faces in the current Liverpool squad are set to bid farewell to the club sooner rather than later. Two members of the Liverpool coaching staff have already seen their contracts terminated by members of the board.

The chief executive officer of Liverpool Football Club, Ian Ayre, stated that the club will actively seek to invest in the best players regardless of the price.

“I stood on the Kop for many years as a fan, and like everyone else I’d love to buy all the greatest players, regardless of price. But, as we saw under the club’s previous ownership, things can all go very wrong financially; then people will hold you accountable for not running the club in the right way. You can’t work that way. You have to have a very detailed, thought-out plan and ensure everyone buys into it and adheres to it.”

Last season saw Liverpool’s transfer committee criticized for their poor returns from the last summer transfer market.

Ayre admits that the club will strive to continue the “Liverpool way” of conducting business in the transfer market. He said, “That is what we have been doing and will continue to do.”

“It doesn’t mean we are not investing in or buying good players; we are just doing it in a smart and sustainable way.”

Liverpool has already announced the signing of four senior players – James Milner, Danny Ings, Roberto Firmino, and Nathaniel Clyne – along with a host of youngsters as well. Liverpool will hope not to overspend this summer with no lucrative Champions League income and the current stadium renovation.

“We may not be competing in the Champions League this year, but we are still making progress as a club and continuing to add quality to our squad. We are also improving financially, which means that as we go forward with the plan, we will have more resources and will be able to invest more than we have in the past.”

With pre-season training starting tomorrow, the weight of expectation will be reminded of those that look likely of staying on for the next season. Liverpool has now doubled down in the transfer market, hoping to extinguish a repeat of next season.
