Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Is Former Celtic Brandon Bass Headed To L.A.?

Brandon Bass has decided to join the other side of the NBA’s biggest rivalry. The free agent will be headed for the Los Angeles Lakers after playing the last four seasons with the Boston Celtics. ESPN is reporting that the terms of the deal have yet to be finalized and could depend on who else the Lakers are able to bring on this offseason.

The Lakers have been busy in free agency, but all their work didn’t reap any rewards in the first few days as they were snubbed by DeAndre Jordan, LaMarcus Aldridge, Robin Lopez, and Greg Monroe. Things have warmed up the last few days as Los Angeles has signed sixth man of the year award winner Lou Williams and Bass. Also, as reported on earlier at the Inquisitr, the Lakers also have a deal in place with the Indiana Pacers to acquire Roy Hibbert, a deal that will only cost them a second round draft pick. The Pacers are willing to make this deal to rid themselves of Hibbert’s contract which will pay him over $15 million next season. Hibbert will become a free agent after next season.

Bass was a second round draft pick, 33rd overall, in 2006 by the New Orleans Hornets out of Louisiana State University. He joined the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent in 2007. He was a free agent again in 2009 and latched on with the Orlando Magic. The Magic traded Bass in 2011 to the Celtics for another LSU product in Glen Davis and Von Wafer.

Last season, Brandon put up an average of 10.6 points per game and grabbed 7.4 rebounds per contest. Bass also established a career high for assists per game with 1.9.

Many Celtics fan will be up in arms with Bass going to the hated Lakers, but at least one had kind words for Brandon on Twitter.

What is next for the Lakers is anyone’s guess, but they obviously still have some irons in the fire. The biggest change for the Lakers this upcoming season will be a return to health for Kobe Bryant. Bryant was only able to play 35 games last season before a torn right rotator cuff derailed his season. Kobe, who USA Today reports will be playing his final season this year, should be back just after the new season begins. The way the roster is shaping up the Lakers are beginning to look like a contender for a playoff spot in the challenging Western Conference.

Do you like the acquisition of Brandon Bass by the Lakers? Who do you think the Lakers should look to add next?
