‘American Idol’ Boots Colton Dixon

“American Idol” delivered a shocking blow, as 20-year-old Colton Dixon of Murfreesboro, Tennessee was booted from the reality TV show Thursday evening.

The alt-rock singer admitted that Wednesday’s performance was not his best, as he struggled through renditions of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and Earth Wind and Fire’s “September.”

Speaking to the show’s judges, who were quite surprised by his removal, Dixon stated that:

“I need to apologize…I wasn’t myself last night, and I get it. And I appreciate what you told me last night. I’ll take that when I’m making a record. And I’ll choose songs [that are right for me].”

Randy Jackson, one of the judges, Interrupted Colton Dixon’s apology, saying that, “You have a huge career ahead of you.” J Lo agreed, assuring the singer that, “You’ll make many records.”

Dixon made it into the top ten finalists, and was the third of the group to be voted out. Elise Testone, Hollie Cavanagh, Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips, Joshua Ledet and Skylar Laine are now the remaining six hopefuls to win the next “American Idol” honors.

Thursday evening’s show also included a tribute to Dick Clark, the renowned TV personality who passed away earlier this week. Ryan Seacrest, host of “American Idol” remembered Clark by commenting that:

“He was smart, charming, funny and always a true gentleman…he was a remarkable man and left a rich legacy for audiences around the world.”

The other Idol contestants who were on the potential chopping block for this week’s show were Hollie Cavanagh and Elise Testone, who has constantly been at the bottom of the voting.

With Colton Dixon’s shocking dismissal, “American Idol” leaves its viewers on the edge, waiting for next week’s show to decide the fate of another hopeful.
