Tom Cruise Leaving Scientology: Actor Makes A Shocking Decision For His Daughter

Tom Cruise is reportedly leaving Scientology, and the reason behind this shocking decision is his daughter, Suri Cruise. According to Hollywood Life, a source told Star magazine that a recent phone call with his daughter lead to the actor’s decision.

“She was going on and on about her ballet class and how much she loves it. That’s when Tom realized he’s never seen her perform ballet and he started to tear up,” the insider said. “It hit him that she’s growing up before his eyes and he’s not there to witness most of it. They talk on the phone and video chat, but it’s not the same.”

For many years, Tom Cruise has been the most famous member of Scientology and he has often been the target of different stories about the religion that began as a secular philosophy developed by L. Ron Hubbard, who later opened the Church of Scientology in Camden, New Jersey, in 1953.

However, this relationship that the actor developed with Scientology could to come to an end, thanks to Suri Cruise, the 9-year-old daughter he shares with Katie Holmes. According to the publication, the insider claims that Cruise had a moving telephone conversation with his daughter in which he realized that he was missing out on all the milestones in his child’s life.

“Tom has been under tremendous pressure where Suri and Katie are concerned because the church doesn’t want him close to them. They can’t stand that their own poster boy isn’t raising his child in the church. If they label Suri a suppressive person (a Scientology term for an enemy of the church), as they’ve been known to do with dissenters, that would make it hard for Tom to have a relationship with her. He’s between a rock and a hard place, but he’s finally making a choice to put his daughter first.”

It has not been confirmed whether Tom Cruise is, in fact, leaving Scientology as the actor has yet to speak on the issue.

But what is Scientology? On its official site, Scientology is described as being “a religion that offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding of one’s true spiritual nature and one’s relationship to self, family, groups, Mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe and the Supreme Being.” The following passage is written on the site’s “What is Scientology?” page.

“Scientology further holds Man to be basically good, and that his spiritual salvation depends upon himself, his fellows and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.”

“Scientology is not a dogmatic religion in which one is asked to accept anything on faith alone. On the contrary, one discovers for oneself that the principles of Scientology are true by applying its principles and observing or experiencing the results.”

“The ultimate goal of Scientology is true spiritual enlightenment and freedom for all.”

Scientology is often criticized because some people believe its members are subjected to physical and psychological abuse. Earlier this year, John Travolta defended Scientology and gave his opinion about why it is so frowned upon.

“Mostly because it’s not understood,” the 61-year-old actor said during a segment of Good Morning America. “You know, people really need to take time and read a book…That’s my advice. You could read New Slant on Life or Dianetics and I think if you really read it, you’ll understand it. But unless you do, you’ll speculate, and I think it’s a mistake to do that.”
