Donald Trump Counters Criticism: ‘Latinos Love Trump And I Love Them’

Donald Trump is facing a public relations nightmare and has already lost business ties with Macy’s, NBC, and Univision due to his negative comments about Latino immigrants. The business magnate and GOP presidential candidate admits he never thought the backlash would be this severe, but insists that he still has the Latino vote for one good reason – jobs.

According to Real Clear Politics, Donald Trump made his case on a golf course in Virginia.

“I do great with Latino voters. I employ so many Latinos. I have so many people working for me. I’m a job creator. I create jobs. I’m a master job creator. No politician knows how to create jobs. They’re all talk, they’re no action. They don’t know what they’re doing…”

“And you know, the Latinos love Trump and I love them.”

Donald Trump’s statement might not stand up to scrutiny. A YouGov poll taken from June 17th to 19th found that Trump was the candidate Latinos least wanted to see on the Republican ticket (22 percent of respondents) – second was Jeb Bush.

Likewise, a majority of Latinos didn’t even take Donald Trump’s candidacy seriously (65 percent).

Those numbers were taken right after Trump’s fateful comments in his candidacy announcement speech, when he said, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best.”

“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Donald Trump has not stepped back from talking about undocumented immigrants as violent criminals. He went on Fox and Friends and used the stabbing of a woman in San Francisco by an immigrant who had been deported five times as further proof of the problem.

“This is an absolutely disgraceful situation and I am the only one that can fix it. Nobody else has the guts to even talk about it. That won’t happen if I become President.”

Trump’s solution is to build a wall at the southern border – a wall he says he’ll make Mexico pay for, according to the Guardian.

The former Apprentice host might have taken some serious blows for his comments, but it might part of his larger campaign strategy. Politico reports that in 2014, Donald Trump warned Republicans that Latinos will not vote for them “no matter what.”

“So with immigration, you better be smart and you better be tough and they’re taking your jobs and you better be careful.”

Trump might be taking his own advice, trying to appeal to the Republican base with harsh language about Latinos and immigration, and effectively disregarding the Latino vote as a lost cause.

Still, Donald Trump might get a few Latinos to vote for him, mostly the ones he employees.
