A new video uploaded by Micah Media on YouTube hopes to make our lives just a little bit easier by teaching us how to peel an egg in less than five seconds. All you need is a glass, some water, and some pretty vigorous shaking on your part, and lo and behold your eggs are peeled. Perfectly.

Such is our urgency to find more efficient and effective solutions to the “how to peel an egg” question that the simple video has had more than 19 million views on YouTube. Just goes to show how to peel an egg can be a bigger problem for us folks than it appears!

In another video, this time by YouTuber Crazy Russian Hacker, multiple eggs are peeled in a matter of seconds. As the host of the video says, most of the time you’ll want to know more than how to peel an egg — you’ll be cooking multiple eggs at a time.

“If you’re throwing a party and you’re trying to make deviled eggs, you’ll need at least twenty eggs.”

But if the idea of peeling eggs this way does not appeal to you, there are still other ways you can peel an egg without much fuss. Tim Ferriss, on his award-winning blog The 4 Hour Workweek, tells us how to peel an egg without even shaking it in a container. You only need to remember to add baking soda to the water while boiling the eggs, which apparently increases the pH and helps the egg shell come out easier.

Another simple way an egg can be peeled is by using a spoon. In a new video series called “Mad Genius Tips,” the folks at Food & Wine reveal some oddball cooking hacks. You simply hit the bottom of an egg against a hard surface and slide a spoon into the opening. Having made sure the spoon has slid underneath the egg’s membrane, you begin to rotate the egg in your hand. The spoon helps loosen the shell, making peeling an egg quick and painless.
