It seems that music’s “Mr Nice Guy” Ed Sheeran is headed for our TV screens. It was reported in the Inquisitr back in May that Ed was considering taking a “long break” from music because he was feeling the pressure of constantly being in the pop music spotlight. It now seems that the speculation over Sheeran’s future had substance as according to the Mirror, Ed has told the UK tabloid the Sun that he has indeed landed a U.S. television role.
Sheeran has previously said that he would have loved to have landed a role in Game Of Thrones, but instead he will make his acting debut in another show.
“I have an acting job coming out after July, I can’t say too much about it because the pilot just got picked up, which is good, but it’s a TV show.”
According to Metro, the TV show is written by one of Sheeran’s friends and is a medieval drama that is both dark and gruesome. It also seems that Ed pulled a few strings to land the role.
“It’s a medieval TV show and it’s really, really dark. It’s gruesome and it’s going to be fine because my friend wrote it. He had a musician in his last show and I said, ‘Oh did he audition for that? And he said ‘No, but I just thought he would be good in it.’ So I said, ‘Can you put me in your show next’?”
What isn’t clear at present is whether or not Ed’s role in the TV show will turn into a long term commitment or if Ed is merely making a cameo appearance. It is hard to see how Sheeran could commit to a long-term acting commitment in the near future as he has sold out shows booked in the UK and Ireland through July. Sheeran then commences a major Arena tour in the U.S., Canada, and Australia commencing September 3 and ending December 12.
Sheeran is renowned as someone who really cares about his fans so it is unlikely that Ed would break his current concert commitments to take his career in a different direction. Ed’s role in the new show is likely to be similar to the cameo appearance he made in Aussie soap opera Home And Away when he was in Australia earlier this year.
It seems that there are no limits to Ed Sheeran’s talents. If Sheeran proves as popular an actor as he is a musician, who knows how far he could go.
