‘Pride And Prejudice And Zombies’: New Movie Stills Released Show A Noblewoman Eating Brains

At the moment it seems if you just add zombies to a television show, movie, or book, then people will come. Zombies are the flavor of the month and just about everything containing the undead are gold for the people producing them. The mash up of Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride and Prejudice with the undead is the latest zombie inflicted movie, aptly titled, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It is based on the book by Seth Grahame-Smith of the same name.

According to IMDb, the synopsis for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is as follows.

“Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England is faced with a new challenge — an army of undead zombies.”

Entertainment Weekly adds that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies “recounts the unlikely romance between Lizzy (Lily James) and the haughty Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley).” Their courtship occurs in a 19th-century English countryside. In this era, the zombies are called the “sorry stricken” and have been roaming the world for more than 70 years.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is directed by Burr Steers and stars Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Lily James (Cinderella), Douglas Booth (Jupiter Ascending), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), and Sam Riley (Maleficent) as Mr. Darcy.

Burr Steers took over the helm after David O. Russell — among others — left, leaving him to decide which path to take in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: literary Austen or B-grade horror. Steers decided on the former road, which was a surprise considering the last movie adaptation of a Seth Grahame-Smith book, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter took the later road.

“The idea was that it was Pride and Prejudice set in this alternate world and then for everyone to play it straight. The movie’s big wink is that there is no big wink.”

According to Lily James, who plays Elizabeth Bennet, she is glad to see corseted ladies finally stepping up to the plate and getting boisterous.

“Rather than knitting and crocheting, they’re polishing muskets,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

EW also had four great new images from the movie. While two of the images are rather tame, featuring a row of girls in corsets in the first and a wedding in the other one. The other two are more intriguing, however. One image shows a woman slipping a knife into her garter, The other presents a bloody-faced woman gnawing at the neck of a man. You can view all the images below.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is slated for release on February 12, 2016.
