Meghan Trainor Postpones Two Shows, Suffers Hemorrhage On Vocal Cords

Meghan Trainor postponed two shows, one in New Jersey and one in Connecticut, after suffering a hemorrhage on her vocal cords. Trainor, who canceled the two concerts under the advice of her physician, made the announcement via Instagram Thursday evening, apologizing to fans who had already made travel plans and purchased tickets.

The 21-year-old Trainor was clearly disappointed and upset, but Meghan’s fans quickly cheered her up via social media with messages of support and encouragement for Trainor’s improved health.

Even fellow musicians tweeted support to Trainor:

This isn’t the first time Trainor has been ordered on complete vocal rest. In an interview last year, Meghan had talked about having developed polyps on her vocal cords that required her to sit out while recording her debut album. At that time, Trainor feared her career was over before it had even truly started.

“I was like, ‘I’ll never be a pop star. There it goes. Bye-bye.'”

Though Trainor notes she was frustrated with the weakness of her voice when she returned to singing, she was able to persevere and jumpstart her career.

Meghan Trainor first established herself on the music scene as a songwriter for musicians such as Rascal Flatts and Sabrina Carpenter. After co-writing a tune called “All About That Bass” that was turned down by Beyonce and Adele, among others, Trainor opted to record the song herself. “All About That Bass” quickly hopped to the top of the music charts and catapulted Trainor into stardom. Since then, Trainor has had several other hits and received multiple music award nominations, including a Grammy and an American Music Award.

While Meghan has vowed not to even speak in an effort to let her vocal cords heal, fans in Michigan are keeping their fingers crossed that Trainor will be able to perform Tuesday night at her scheduled concert in Lansing. Trainor’s previous vocal rest lasted for two months, which could spell disaster for the remainder of her tour.

Until Meghan Trainor gets a clean bill of health, her fans can console themselves with this little video of her first time performing “All About That Bass” live.
