Watch Up Close & Personal Attack By Great White Shark [Video]

A woman in South Africa filmed a scary incident where a great white shark tried to bite its way through the viewing cage she was in at the time. Cue that famous Jaws theme and watch the footage here.

People can probably be forgiven if they are starting to think that the vicious toothy predator known as the great white shark is out to get us. With so many recent reports on the Inquisitr of great white shark attacks and sightings all over the world, it is certainly starting to look that way.

According to the Mirror, Hillary Rae Petroski took the above video footage while shark cage diving in South Africa and, while the practice is normally considered to be safe, her screams tell the whole story about how scared she and her friends were when the great white shark started attacking the viewing cage.

In the description on the video on YouTube, Petroski describes the damage caused by the great white shark.

“While shark cage diving, our cage was attacked by an 11.5 foot Great White shark. The round buoy attached to the side of the cage was bent in half. Some of the lining of the outside blue barrier bar was bitten through as well. It was quite the up close and personal experience!”

She apologized for the shakiness of the footage but under the circumstances it is pretty easy to forgive her! Petroski says she captured the footage with a GoPro Hero 4 wide angle and says that the great white shark was actually even closer than he appears on the video footage.

Watch from above and below the water, as the massive 11.5-foot great white shark turns on its side and attempts to force its snout through the bars at the watching divers, who scream loudly in the background. Eventually, however, the shark does give up and swim away.

Recent South African news on the Inquisitr reports the story of two recent great white shark attacks in one area within two days. What was particularly shocking about the attacks was that a volunteer sea rescue guy answered an emergency call, only to find that the attack victim was his own son. Luckily that victim wasn’t too badly injured, but the other great white shark attack victim lost a leg.

Having viewed the footage above, would you go great white shark cage diving?
